In a message dated 98-02-13 22:34:17 EST, you write: << I have a friend in IN researching Bird/Byrd. But I would be interested in your friends line of BIRDS in Indiana because I have really hit a brick wall with the BIRD line. These are some of the BIRD names I have: all siblings Z . B. Hello, Can anyone help me identify the parents of Elizabeth BIRD (nicknamed Betsy or Clarkey), b. ca. 1806 in KY, who was married (1820 in Clark [Estill] Co., KY) to Benjamin Franklin Tuttle, b. 1798 in VA (son of John Tuttle who moved from VA to KY). I have seen her parents listed as Richard and Cassandra BYRD but have not seen any evidence of their relationship. Census records indicate that after residing a short time in Clay Co., KY, Elizabeth and Benjamin lived most of their married lives in Estill Co., KY, where at least seven of their ten children were born. Family legend says she served as a local midwife and was always ready to help those in need; census records identify Benjamin as a schoolteacher. Any help in identifying the BIRD/BYRD family from which Elizabeth came would be most appreciated. Mary Ellen Sharp [email protected] or [email protected]

I am seeking information regarding William A. & Elizabeth Bird, Sr. and their four children, William, Jr., George, Mary Ann, and Frankie of Bibb County, Alabama; Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana; and several counties in Texas. William Bird, Jr. supposedly was born in Bibb County, Alabama on 7 Mar 1840. He died In Kirbyville, Jasper Co., Texas on 23 Jan 1918. He married Missouri Josephine MAHLE (daughter of John Henry and Nancy BAGLEY Mahle) in Caddo Parish on 19 Jun 1861. Missouri died in Port Arthur, Texas in Jan 1929. The family moved from Shreveport, Louisiana to Texas shortly after 1870. A son, Lee Griffin was born in Louisiana or Texas in Feb 1871. William & Missouri also lived in Anderson, Madison Tyler and perhaps Polk counties, Texas. William Bird, Jr. had siblings: George Bird, Mary Ann Bird who married James JOHNSTON (Johnson) of Ireland, and Frankie Bird who married Thomas FULGHAM My direct line is through Lee Griffin (Robert Lee) Bird of Polk Co., Texas. I would appreciate any information on the Bird, Mahle, Johnston, and Fulgham families. Best regards, Ray Botkin

I am trying to find a Bird in a very difficult bush! She was Sarah ("Sallie") Bird, born 1795, in Virginia, married to Phillip Turney of Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. She died in 1870 in Somerset Co. They had 11 children: Eliza, Elizabeth, Mary "Polly", Valentine, Andrew, John, Phillip Jr., William, Catherine, Harrison and Thomas... It would be most wonderful if someone could tell me her parents, etc. Hoping for a "captured" Bird, I am, Mariah -- Mark and Mariah Lawson [email protected] http://user.icx.net/~midgard/frntdoor.htm ICQ UIN 2128207 (Nick: Vigbrand) "Universe is not required to maintain a straight face!" I have just updated my webpage with about 100 individuals. The general area is Southern WV, Eastern Tennessee, Southwestern VA, and Yancey & Mitchell Counties in NC. I am placing the surnames along with number of each here below for you to check over. If it looks like you might be interested in a particular surname...Please!...visit my page(s) which are linked in my signature file at the bottom and examine the GEDCOM (2 versions) that I have made available. The last time that I placed the list here WITHOUT making this point I ended up getting over 100 non-specific requests like..."Give me all you have on the "XXX" surname" or "Do you think that your John XXX might be related to XXX?" I regret that I will not be able to answer email which does not have a definite connection to a specific person in my file. Hello I am new to this list. I am searching for connections to Lucinda Sharpton McClendon who was the wife of Daniel Byrd McClendon, whose parents were Joel McClendon and Sarah Byrd. Sarah's parents were Elijah Byrd and Nancy Bird (cousins). Elijah's parents were Elijah Sr and Ann Nancy Bird's parents were Daniel Byrd Sr. and Sussanah Daniel Byrd Sr and Elijah Sr.'s father was William Byrd III, who, according to my source, founded Richmond, Va. Their other brothers were Solomon, Hezekiah, John. Wiliam's father was William Byrd II and his father was William Byrd I. I received my existing information from Ralph McClendon for which I thank him again, if he is on this list. Loucinda Sharpton's mother was Elizabeth Sharpton who lived "next" door to Alexander Sharpton (son of Jeptha Sharpton). There is no proven connection between them as related other than they lived next to each other and had the same last name. Elizabeth was born about 1822. Loucinda was born about 1844-1846.Alexander was born 1801. All were born in Edgefield SC. If there are any corrections, ommissions, additions or other information, especially, a well sourced Byrd line, please email me at [email protected] Thanks John A. BICKERING! Allow me to humbly throw my two cents into the ring based on more than ten years experience in online discussions like the ones we enter into here. Friends...both the "regulars" and the "lurkers" that we seldom hear from, BICKERING is something that you need to get used to while at the same time working towards minimizing it THROUGH PRIVATE MAIL. To the regulars I say...It is easy to cross paths, say something that someone doesn't like, be misinterpreted or misinterpret something someone else says...etc., etc., etc...in this kind of environment. Almost all of the things we say are attached to "body language" which people see in personal contact and the two together convey a more perfect meaning to our words. However!...without the visual contact even the most innocent things are easily taken the wrong way and bitter catfights can result. Participation in this particular type of environment is not an easy thing to adjust to. It would seem...and does seem to most...that it should be an almost automatic thing to act and be civil in this environment. In fact, people often wonder how something they say that wouldn't be "anything" in normal conversation brings such tirades from people here. The truth is that even though it "feels" like we are simply writing a letter...like we do to our family & friends...that online messaging ettiquette (& tolerance) is E_X_T_R_E_M_E_L_Y difficult to learn...often taking years....sometimes it is never learned. To make things easier for all, my suggestion to the "regulars" is to take your "chill pills", go light on the coffee, take deep breaths, count to 10 (maybe several times), remember that the "send" key can bite you where you don't want to be bitten, and along with about a thousand other things...don't be afraid to give the other person the break we all need...catfights can start at the drop of a hat. Let's be patient. To the "lurkers" out there I say...forgive these poor knuckleheads for they know not what they do. (Big Grin). Don't come into here, lurk, see all the bickering and ASSUME that it isn't worth it....because it IS if you are serious about what this is all about. You might have to sort through a lot of nonsense to get to the good stuff...but it IS here. Keep lurking...don't overlook the "digest modes" of these lists...and just keep your eyes open. Some people want to read every message...some just look at the headers; do whatever feels comfortable and occasionally "just for fun" open one of those "no subject" messages...it might surprise you. I (purposely) do not post to the lists very often...I leave that to the "experts" (Grin!). However do NOT be afraid to jump in if you have something to say. And don't forget that someone else might be anxiously waiting to see _YOUR_ surname pop up so that they can get together with you privately. You will not see me here very often but these lists have been a vehicle to connect me with several cousins that I did not know about till they saw something from me here...and have been influential in solving an 80 year old mystery concerning a grandmother that neither my father nor I ever knew. Never give up the ship and don't ASSUME from a few days, or few weeks, or few months of browsing these lists that it's all a waste of time....they DO work. Condolences to all, Joseph BRITT http://www.toltbbs.com/~jbritt http://members.xoom.com/jbritt BRITT - VA>TN BROWN - Knoxville,TN area BYRD - Carter Co, TN & Michell Co, NC CHANDLER - Knoxville,TN area DAVIS - Knoxville,TN area HONEYCUTT - Carter Co.,TN area STANDIFER - Wise Co.,VA
Hi All, I'm on a search--aren't we all! My grandfather, Charles Byrd, had a railroad station named after him just outside of Enid, OK. He worked for the Frisco Railroad forever and was well respected by all those he worked with. When the junction was built, because of this respect, they named it after him. It was called "Byrd" junction, and I have a picture of he and my grandmother standing under the railroad sign. I would sure like to get my hands on the sign. I've checked with the railroad museum in Springfield, MO, but they responded they didn't have it, but would keep his eyes opened for it. Anyone out there have any other ideas where I might look? pat ---------- > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Subject: BIRD-D Digest V98 #15 > Date: Tuesday, January 27, 1998 8:05 AM >
