Hello everyone, I recently subscribed to this list in hopes of finding information on a family ancestor name William Bird (middle name unknown). He was born in 1827 and to the best of my knowledge, came from the Finger Lakes region of New York State. He moved to Illinois and married Esther Mary Sweet, born ca.1832, who was from Vermont. They then moved to Kalkaska, Michigan where they lived out their days. I've contacted the local genealogical society in Seneca County, New York but they don't have a record of him there. If anyone has information on a William Bird in that area it would be most appreciated. Other names I am researching: Carter (Pennsylvania), Zimmerman (Pennsylvania), Sweet (Vermont) Thanks, Steve Zimmerman [email protected]

Susannah was also a popular name with the Alamance/Caswell County, NC Birds who migrated from Delaware. I have four Susannah's in my data, the first being born in Newcastle, De about 1700. My ancestor Susannah who married Quinton Anderson in Caswell County was born in 1784. It looks as though this family, as did many families back then recycled names. Individuals would name their children after brothers/sisters, aunts/uncles ect... Common names associated with these Birds since 1700 were : Susannah Empson James Jehu ( possibly a nickname for John ) Richard Thomas William Mary Elizabeth Thanks, Slade Anderson http://www.slade-anderson.com > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [SMTP:[email protected]] > Sent: Thursday, March 26, 1998 8:52 AM > To: [email protected]; [email protected] > Subject: Susannah Bird/Byrd > > Pat wrote: > > >I have just received the info that my Joseph GEORGE married Susannah > BIRD/BYRD > >on 25 Aug 1795 in Sumner Co, TN. > > > >This was sent to me by someone who (a) received it from someone else > who had > >long researched this family but is now deceased (b) could not find > the actual > >info in Sumner Co records. > > > >Anyone out there with a Susanna/h or Mary/Polly Bird/Byrd - and she > probably > >came from North Carolina - who might fit? A Susannah Byrd who must have been born in the early 1790s married Jacob Honeycutt of Buncombe Co., N.C., about 1810. Unfortunately, I have not been able to trace her ancestry either. One family legend says that her parents were Sam and Polly Byrd. Another source said her father's name was Christopher. I have been able to document neither. There were a great many early Byrds in Buncombe County, especially in the part that now is Yancey County. They appear to have been descendants of George William Byrd, Revolutionary soldier from Virginia who subsequently settled in the area.
