Hi fellow Bird/Byrd researchers. The post by Tom Camfield interested me greatly. I would appreciate it greatly if some of you would tell me where I could find a documented family history of someone here in the USA that leads back to the ancient old name leBird. I would like to study it. While I am here I would like to ask your help in finding documented proof of the parents of my James Byrd born, based on census, about 1764 in TN. They were in Grainger Co. TN in 1830, was still there in 1836 as his oldest son Charles, married Martha Bull there at that time. Thanks for your help. James

Hello every one, I found this site today. Not really for the ALLEN, since those doing research there are only working in New England, NY, NJ and PA. But possibly for other ancestors of theirs. If you have any ancestor who may have died in MI between the years of 1867 - 1875 go to http://www.mdch.state.mi.us/PHA/OSR/gendis/index.htm It is searchable. Do not have to give full info. If you want to search all of one surname just type it in. I possibly found info on one ancestor who I know died in MI, but wasn't sure of date. Candice: There is a family of Birds from Dorchester,MA where the first immigrant was a Thomas Bird - not the Thomas Bird that settled in Farmington, CT. While looking for my (Farmington) Thomas Bird, I found a lot of GEDCOMs concerning the other (Dorchester) Thomas Bird on the ancestry world tree at www.ancestry.com. I didn't download any of them, so I can't help you with Martha, but if you look there you might find her. Good luck, Judy

I am trying to find more information on my great grandfather, Thadeus Bird. I am not certain where he was born. In the 1850 U.S. census, he was listed as being born in Kentucky, where his wife, Mary Figg Smith came from. He was born in 1820. He and Mary were married in 1850 in Henderson County, IL. They had two daughters. In 1854 he deserted his wife and 2 children and disappeared. Later he surfaced in Butler County, IA where he was being charged with bigamy, as he had married a woman by the name of Mary Wells sometime between 1854 and 1857. When my greatgrandmother discovered this, she filed for divorce. Butler County has no records of the court proceedings or disposition, and no record of his death there. He has just vanished!! NY Married Catherine covert abt 1701 at Hellsgate Neck, Newtown, Queens Long island New york, I do not show anna, sarah and Richard, as children but i do so mary, and katherine andrew Bird abt 1673 is the son of Andrew Bird and Hannah Dimend who is the son of JOhn Bird and he is the supposed son of Thomas Bird and Mary Belden of Hartford Conn. The Augustus Byrd in my family line was born on April 24, 1882 in Oxford, Ga. This does not appear to be the one that you are interested in.

This has to be Augustus Allen Bird b. 1 Apr 1802 in Thetford, Orange, VT, son of Zenas Bird and Tabitha Burgoyne. Augustus m. Charity LeClair 1824 in Westmoreland, Onieda, NY and Augustus d. 25 Feb 1870 in Green Bay, Brown WI. They had 7 issue. Augustus would be my 3rd great granduncle. Augustus was an early settler of Dane County, WI and I guess important in the formation of Madison, WI. There is some disinformation as to his parantage in a Beers write up. Augustus' life was partially reconstructed in a book called "To the Last Bird, the Story of a Wisconsin Pioneer Family" written in the mid 1980's of which I have a copy. One brother settled in Alabama and the other brother in Virginia. Thomas lived in Newton County, GA and is died in Oxford, GA. I am looking for information on: John Bird, a goldsmith in London,England, who married Grace Staggs. father and mother of: William Bird, d Dec 4, 1704 at Westover Plantation, VA. He married Mary Horsmanden b 1652 d Nov. 9,1699 in VA, She was d/o Rev. Daniel Horsmanden. William came to the colonies in 1677 to take over the estate of his uncle, Thomas Staggs. William lived at "Belvidere" first then built "Westover on the James", founded Richmond, VA. His son William II married Lucy Parke first then married Maria Taylor. I do not know of any of his children. William II surveyed the line that divided Virginia and the Carolina's There are references to other children of William and Mary Horsmanden but I cannot find names.
