    1. [BIRD-L] New List Owner
    2. LCleversey
    3. Hi everyone I thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself to you. I'm Lisa Cleversey I live in Florida and mom to a 16yr daughter and 13 yr son {they are causing me to go gray and crazy}. I didn't start my genealogy research till I went on-line in Jan 1996, that's when my sister who had been research for 6 years asked if I would search the internet for information. Well that's all it took *grin*. I'm searching the Jeremiah BIRD/BURD line from Elizabeth, Essex Co., NJ. It seems his son George adopted the spelling of BURD and this is the line I descend from. This line moved to Steuben Co., NY. Besides List owner for this list, I Co-Own the Cook List. I'm also a Community Leader with Geocities and Assitant Ring Master for Heartland Genealogy Society. Yes I like to stay busy. If you need help with anything Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] Oh one more thing I would like to invite all of you to join the HGS Treasure Hunt that starts Monday June 29th. For more details on it Please follow the following URL; http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/2416/hgshunt.html Thanks and Good Luck in your searches, Lisa -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Heartland/Plains Community Leader 2500-2999 Tell them how I am doing! http://www.geocities.com/features/contest/leaders/ Heartland Genealogy Society Assistant Ringmaster http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/2416 cleversey's Home Page http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/5421 [email protected] Icq #9492621

    1. [BIRD-L] WILKINSON - Monroe Co, AL
    2. Hello from California, I'm looking descendants of Lrvi Asa WILKINSON and Jerry W. WILKINSON in Monroe Co., AL, ca 1950's. My great uncle, Arthur WILKINSON contacted Uncle Levi in Frisco City in 1953. He copied from the family bible at that time. Uncle Jerry was living "some 40 miles from Uncle Levi" at that time, probably Old Texas. Anything about these men would help. They are children of David Ginnings (or Jennings) Wilkinson, b. April 21, 1836 Dale Co., AL and Sarah H. Byrd. Sarah is daughter of Moses BYRD. HELP!!! Grant W. Johnston, Chico, CA

    1. [BIRD-L] Jeptha Bird, C.1797, South Carolina
    2. Cody
    3. I just subscribed to several mail lists and did not organize myself before I started making posts, so if I've already sent this, forgive the duplication. But I just saw the name Jeptha Bird come through on another message and wanted to get this out. There is a Jeptha Bird on the 1850 Monroe County Alabama census with wife Amelia Ann Woodham and children: 1 Jeptha Bird b: Abt 1797 SC +Amelia Ann Woodham b: Abt 1816 SC m: 1830-1835 AL 2 William C. Bird b: Abt 1840 2 Henry S. Bird b: Abt 1842 2 John H. or A. Bird b: Abt 1844 2 Miles M. Bird b: Abt 1847 I believe the above to be the parents and brothers of my Jeptha Bird b. 1834-1835 in Alabama, but for some reason he is not on this census. My Jeptha Bird line is: 1 Jeptha R. Bird b: 1834-1835 AL d: Abt 1879 +Mary Catherine ? b: Abt 1837 AL m: 1856-1857 d: 1875-1880 2 John C. Bird b: 1858-1859 AL 2 Julia A. Bird b: 1861-1862 AL 2 William H. Bird b: 1862-1863 AL 2 Mary Marelle Molly Bird b: 1868-1869 AL 2 Arizona Gertrude Bird b: May 10, 1872 AL or TX d: January 24, 1955 +William Henry Shopher, Sr. b: January 01, 1864 m: 1884-1890 d: November 22, 1941 2 Helen Catherine Bird b: 1874-1875 TX At some point my Jeptha lost a leg in an industrial accident and he died when my gr-grandmother, Arizona, was about 7 years old. Please let me know if any of you can verify that the first Jeptha is the father of my Jeptha. Also I have been told they were Indian, I think Cherokee?, and I'm trying to prove that also. His son, David Ginnings Wilkinson, b. 4-21-1836, married Sarah BYRD. Sarah was daughter of Moses BYRD. Moses BYRD is thought to be from SC. David G. and Betsy had a son, David N. Wilkinson, who moved his family to DeSoto parish, LA in 1890. In an interesting twist of events I discovered there are PUGH and BYRD families in the same area that David N. WILKINSON moved to --- DeSoto Parish, LA. They are listed in cementery records at <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~ladesoto/index.htm">DeSoto Parish, Louisiana Genealogy</A> , Here is one BYRD I found there. Martha G. BYRD DeWITT, Nov. 16, 1840 - July 2, 1900      wife of J. D. DeWITT, born in Darlington Dist. SC. Thomas Allen DeWITT, Aug. 1, 1877 - Dec. 4, 1894        son of J. D. & M.C. DeWITT J. D. DeWITT, Nov. 25, 1840 - Feb. 11, 1908      born in Darlington Dist. SC. There is not any connection I know of between those families in LA but I suspect one exist further back. I think there is a connection yet to be discovered. I think the answer is in SC and maybe AL. Does anybody have information about BYRD, PUGH, WILKINSON in SC? Grant W. Johnston Chico, CA

    2. Hello, I am new at this, and trying to find info of any kind on my Great Grandfather, and Grand parents. Wiley Benjamin Byrd of Marion, S.C. (I think) and Wiley Byrd (born: July 15 1901, died: 6-1974) who married Kizzy Elizabeth Anderson both also of Marion S.C. . Any information would be of value seeing that this is all I have. Thanks, Woodrum [email protected]

    3. Regarding the following response to my earlier post: >Carol Middleton has a web site that includes Hugo LeBird. She and I have both >been exploring these "early Birds". (But did they really get the worm??- very >small genealogy humor) Her site is: http://home.att.net/~cmiddleton I got a busy signal when trying that www address, so I switched to a search engine that led me to Carol Middleton's page as updated Dec. 1997. It contained nothing earlier than the marriage of Henry leBird and Ann Phelkin (whose son Thomas, who m. Alyce Palin, was b. ca. 1570). Only reference to the early Hugo was something to the effect that he had accompanied William the Conqueror (and didn't everyone?)...nothing further...nothing that I could find dealing with the the some 500 intervening years. Regards, Tom

    1. [BIRD-L] From List Owner - Everyone Please Read!
    2. Hello Everyone, Due to the fact of my having to spend so much time designing web sites, especially my helping people, animals, my military and POW/MIA's I am finding it difficult to maintain all of my mailing lists. I would like to find someone to take over the three I am sending this message to. I will maintain the others. Don't get me wrong, normally they are easy to maintain, but I am just too involved. The last 3 weeks I have just been collecting mail so I would not lose it. If I can spot real quick, that a message is from someone on the list I will answer it as quickly as I can, but I have some that are that old that I have not even been able to answer. I would hate that to be from someone regarding a question about the list. It is not fair to the people on any of my lists. I am not asking someone to take them all. Someone might want to take just one, or maybe two. That is fine. There is no rush to do this, I will keep maintaining them as long as needed. When I do find someone, I will then see about having them transferred. Now regarding about taking them over, (I have to find out yet), when we came from MAISER we were taken freely because that is how it was there. I do sponsor Rootsweb to maintain my lists, but I didn't have to. If they are transferred I don't know if they will need to be sponsored or not. The fee is normally $25.00 a year for two lists. I would imagine if someone wanted to take just one, and because of the change they MIGHT charge a fee I am sure $12.00 for the year they would accept. It takes a lot of money to run Rootsweb, I believe the last I heard the next year would run Brian and Karen about $300,000.00. As every thing is growing it takes more equipment to maintain Rootsweb. There are donors, so they help too. I do not want to discourage someone from taking one of the lists, please don't get me wrong. They probably would just let the change over go through without any fees. I will know more about this for sure later. The only thing will be taking the ALLEN-NE-list over. This must stay limited to the New England, NY, NJ and PA areas only, as it was originally set up. There is already another ALLEN list, so there is no sense having a second one. Neil Allen runs the other one and has a very good list. So if any one is interested in doing this just let me know. I will still be maintaining the other two lists, BUCKLEY and STRAIGHT. Thank you, Sharon Straight List Owner for surname mailing lists - ALLEN-NEW-ENGLAND/NY/NJ/PA - BIRD - BUCKLEY - DRUMM and STRAIGHT. Srearching for ALLEN (NY); BERRY (PA, WI); BRISTOL (NY, WI); BUCKLEY (IRE, NY, MI); CONNOLLY (IRE, MI); DRUMM (OH); GARRISON (TN, KY); JENKINS (OH); KAUFFMAN (OH, WI); LITTLE (SCOT, CANADA, MI); PUGH (IL); RAMSEY (NC, KY); SELBY (IN); and WORKMAN (NC, TN, KY)

    2. Tom, Carol Middleton has a web site that includes Hugo LeBird. She and I have both been exploring these "early Birds". (But did they really get the worm??- very small genealogy humor) Her site is: http://home.att.net/~cmiddleton None of this is ironclad, of course. I checked what I have of my two Bird/Byrd lines and don't have a Susan Byrd at that point. It would not be inconcievable that Thomas Bird went to NC, although it does seem a little early. William Byrd II wrote _History of the Dividing Line_ in 1730 after extensive exploration of the area between NC and VA for the government of Virginia. This is from the book, _William Byrd of Westover_. Hope this helps. "While exploring North Carolina, ... Byrd made an arrangement with one of the commissioners of North Carolina for two hundred pounds, a little more than his own salary for the expedition, he bought 20,000 acres at the confluence of the Dan and Irvine Rivers. Later, in 1743, he added 6000 acres to that estate, which he named the Land of Eden. with a double meaning since Governor Eden was then serving in North Carolina. He had hoped to settle this area with Swiss emigrants which he deemed the best colonists he could find. As early as January 1729, Byrd had purchased a plantation on Meherrin River, that "might serve as a convenient stage or halfway house to the distant territory he owned on the Roanoke River. as another stopping place between Westover and the Land of Eden, between 1730 and 1738 he acquired more than 5000 acres where the Staunton and the Dan rivers join to form the Roanoke." Founded the City of Richmond and fixed the boundary line between Virginia and North Carolina."

    3. Hi, all. I have seen reference recently to the ancient line from Hugo leBird of the 1100s. Is this line down to the mid-1500s available somewhere on a web site? Also, I have seen this name in early generations both as leBird and leBrid. Is this latter a typographical error...or has the former just been arbitrarily changed from the latter? I'm still seeking the Susan Byrd who m. Jacob Honeycutt of Buncombe/Yancey Counties, N. C., ca. 1810--but I've been unable to locate Susan's parents. [email protected] recently remarked on a Thomas Bird, b. 1653 (wife Elizabeth), whom she believes moved to North Carolina. He seems a bit young to have moved into that unsettled area. I would welcome information both on the ancient descent from Hugo...and on any Susan Bird/Byrd born ca. 1790-95. Thanks, and Best Regards, Tom ([email protected])

    1. [BIRD-L] From List Owner - Help needed for a 2 year old child - rare disease
    2. Hello Everyone, I am going to take a chance and send this message to all my lists. I have such great people here, I hope you will not mind. I just came across a site that has information about a little boy that is 2 years old. If there should be any doctors or any one here that knows of this strange disease, maybe they can help the family. Little Chris has only grown 2 1/4" since he was 9 months old. So far no doctors have been able to help. They do not know what the problem is. His bones are not growing, but the organs will. They say this will lead to an early death. Maybe someone on my lists have heard of a similar situation. If you can help please go to my site at http://members.aol.com/ssharmans/helpsave2.htm There you can go to the link for Chris. When you get to the site you can read all the information about Chris. You can e-mail the parents if you know any thing about it, or know someone they can contact. 1. [BIRD-L] Help needed
    2. Hello, My name is Cathy Reed and I am reserching the name of BIRD. I have come across a real road block and was wondering if anyone out there, more experienced than myself, could help me. I am trying to find the parents names of my GG Grandfather Edward E. Bird. He WAS on Stockham, NE Census for 1885. I do not know when he died I have managed to find that he served in the Military, 45th Iowa Infantry, Post 87. I believe that he died, and is buried in the Aurora, NE cemetery, but it is an unmarked grave, and the records were destroyed in a fire. The Census says that his father was born in PA, but I don't know if he came with the family to Nebraska or stayed in PA. I have posted Queries on NE, PA, and IA GenWeb pages, with no luck. How can I find out who his parents were? ANY help you could give would be very much appreciated! Cathy Reed
