Someone had asked for an index to this book and it includes the following: Andrew Byrd m. Magdalene (the book didn't state her last name but I believe it was Jones), their son, Mounce Byrd, m. Clara Ruddle, their son, John Byrd, b. 1759, d. 1829, m. Eleanor (?), their son, John M. Byrd, b. 1787, d. 1857, m. Susannah Bevin, their son, George Washington Byrd, b. 1835, d. 1897, m. Elizabeth Cartwright, their son, John Alva Byrd b. 1860, d. 1911, m. Nora Jane Sonner. It also states William and Thomas Byrd came to VA from England in the late 1600's and that Thomas Byrd and wife Mary/Maria Howlett had a son, Andrew Byrd who married Mary Ewing and they had a son, Abraham, who died in Calvert Co., MD in 1698-99. The above John M. Byrd was probably born in Bourbon Co., KY and lived in Todd/Christian Co., KY, Fayette Co., IN, Rush Co., IN and Wells Co., IN by 1850. He was in the War of 1812, Pvt. in KY Militia and died 7 April 1857 in Wells Co., IN. He married Susannah Bevins, d/o John Bevins and had the following children: Abraham, m. 1st Elizabeth Oldham and 2nd Jane Andrews; John m. Amanda Brooks; William, m. Lydia Ann Schoononer; Elizabeth, m. Allen Crissmore; Andrew Jackson; George Washington, m. Elizabeth Carwright; Susannah and Mary Ann. Mounce Byrd, s/o Andrew and Magdalene, m. Eleanor (?), was a Rev. War soldier, serving in the 8th VA Reg. in Capt. Isaac Ruddle's Co., died 1829/30 in Connersville, Fayette Co., IN. Had the following children: John M. (above); Abraham; Rebecca, m. Zacheriah Jacobs; Mary Ann, m. Cornelius Claypole; Sarah, m. Nathaniel Smelling and probably at least one younger child born about 1803. Sorry to have been so long in getting this out. Kinda got behind while buried in ice with no electricity. Glenda
I read somewhere that the Andrew Bird in Raritan, NJ was the son of Thomas Bird and Maria Howlett. Other children were: William, Abraham, Mary and Thomas. I am interested in descendants of Thomas and Maria's son, Thomas Bird if anyone has any information on them. The Thomas Bird who married Maria Howlett was a brother to THE William Bird of Westover. I can dig out the actual info and sources if anyone is interested. Glenda
Mary, Since you seem to be 'well equipped" with reference material on the Bird family, I thought I would see if just perhaps you had anything on my ancestor Sarah Ann Bird, who was born on 13 Dec 1778, probably in PA, died 14 Jan 1850 in Lodi, NY, lived for a time in Easton, PA, married Peter Meddick, and had nine children with him. Thanks! Bruce Woodworth
IN hopes of not getting my head chopped off agian! This is all not correct. See my posts of long ago under foxlover in the archives. I have made a mistake on the wife of one of the andrew birds but that is also in the archives. Hi, I'm new to this list and am seeking information on the lineage of Sylvia T. Bird who was born about 1815 in Victory Township, Cayuga Co, NY. She was the second wife of Jacob Crowley, married July 9, 1845. The Crowleys moved from New York to Winnebago County, Illinois, near Rockford. Sylvia died in 1880 and I believe had a younger brother named Daniel who was married to Mary. As you can tell, I have sketchy information but would like to make connections with others researching this line... I have tons of information on the Crowleys. To Ed Stumpf: I checked in a book I have on the Bird Families which contains the following chapters: Chapter 1 - Andrew Bird and the New Jersey Birds Chapter 2 - The Luzerne County, PA Birds Chapter 3 - The Michigan Branch of the Bird Family Chapter 4 - The Northumberland Co., PA Birds Chapter 5 - The Sylvanus Bird Family of Knox Co., Ohio Chapter 6 - The Virginia Branch of the Bird Family I did not find the Richard or Andrew you are looking for. I did find Richard Bird son of John Bird and Rebecca Montanye. This Richard was born on Aug. 21, 1789 in Luzerne Co., PA and married Elizabeth Space who was born in 1792. Richard died on Aug. 22, 1831 and Elizabeth on Sept. 21, 1884. Richard & Elizabeth had 3 children: Sarah, Matilda and Margaret. The Andrew Bird, who with several sons moved to the Raritan Valley of Somerset County, New Jersey from Long Island, was born sometime in the middle of the 1600s (possibly between 1645 and 1650) per book by Prof. Bennett. Andrew Sr.'s wife was Mary (perhaps Mary Ewing) Known children: 1. Andrew Bird Jr. - born ca 1670 in Newtown, Queen's County, Long Island, New York 2. George Bird - born ca 1673 prob. in Newtown 3. unknown daughter born ca 1676 prob. in Newtown 4. Thomas Bird - born ca 1679 5. Elisha Bird - born ca 1682 Andrew Bird Jr. married Mary Brokaw and shortly after their marriage moved to the Raritan Valley of New Jersey. Mary was previously married to Myndert Wilson. An Andrew Bird settled in Piscataway, New Jersey in 1708. In 1710 an Andrew Bird was appointed as Assessor of Somerset County, New Jersey. Andrew Jr. died in 1723. He and Mary are believed to have had the following children: William M. Bird - born in 1703 Mary Bird - baptized Aug. 1, 1704 - Raritan Ref.Dutch Ch Catherine Bird - baptized October 25, 1704 - Raritan Ref. Ch. Borgon Bird - baptized Apr. 30, 1707 - Raritan Ref. Church Abraham Bird - baptized Aug. 2, 1710 - Raritan Reformed Ch. Sarah Bird (possibly) Andrew Bird - born ca 1702 at Raritan, New Jersey Andrew, son of Andrew Jr. and Mary (Brokaw) Bird was my ancestor. Ed, there is no index in this book, so I could have missed a mention of another Richard Bird, and if I ever notice it I will try to get back to you. The book I took this info. from is: DESCENDANTS OF ANDREW BIRD OF COLONIAL LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK by Prof. E. O. Bennett Happy hunting, Mary (Ruddell) Zollman boots@aye.net
To Ed and Mary: The fact that Richard Bird's brother is named Bourgon probably means he is a descendant of Andrew Bird and Mary Brokaw, daughter of Burgeon Brocaud. The book by Ed Bennet that Mary mentions doesn't have any mention of Ed's Richard; however, Ed has just finished a second edition with a lot more information (or so he tells me). He doesn't monitor this mailing list, but if you send him a query by email (at ebennet@cvtv.net) he usually answers promptly, and is very willing to share his research. I am Susan BARLOW Holmes of Redfield Arkansas. I would love to find the parents of Elisabeth BYRD who married Norval R. BARLOW in Rankin Co Mississippi on Feb 27 1845. Norval is the nephew of my great great Grandfather, George Washington BARLOW....George was married to Flora Anne BYRD and it is said that Elisabeth and Flora were sisters....however....we have as yet to prove a parent for either of them.. Also, Nathaniel Green BARLOW, George Washington BARLOWS twin....was married to Mary BYRD...and she too may be a sister of Elisabeth and Flora.. The book..."Memoirs of Mississippi" states that Mary is the daughter of George and Susan BYRD of SC....but several BYRD researchers disagree with that...and I have seen some sheets claiming Mary to be the daughter of Eden BYRD and Anne LEE. In the 1850 Rankin Co census...Mary and Nathaniel were living in Rankin Co and an elderly George BYRD is living near them....and in the 1860 census..Nathaniel and Mary are living back Simpson Co..near the rest of the BARLOW boys..Living near them is a John BYRD. In my mind, I believe that this John and George were brothers..and that John may have been the parents of Flora and Elisabeth..while George is the father of Mary...but I have yet to find that proof..As we know..the census prior to 1850 serves little purpose in identifying children and spouses in a household.. Now that I have you all suffieciently confused...I'll give you time to comtemplate all of the John, George...Mary and Elisabeth's....I sure wish my folks had been a little more creative in their naming of children! <GGG> thanks for any response... Susan... "A website for everyone researching the surname Barlow, any spelling or variation, anywhere, anytime..includes..Barlow, Barlowe, Barlo, Barloe, Barler, Parler, Parlur, Barlage, and others yet to be discovered.." ....visit............. "THE BARLOW CLEARINGHOUSE" http://www.genweb.net/~barlow/index.html If we don't have your family....please send me a few of your generations or a query....and we'll see what we can do to find them...thanks....susan

Does anyone have the parents of George William Byrd who was born about 1730 in Virginia and died 1825 in Yancey County, North Carolina? His wife was Margaret Ann Hutson. If you do, please e-mail me. John Byrd jbyrd16476@ij.net
Dear Tom: Your Sarah Bird is very likely a daughter of Andrew Bird and Hannah Dimend. I have seen Hannah's name listed as Mary a few times. I wonder if it is because when they moved to New Jersey they were members of the Dutch Refoemed Church, and all the names were changed to Dutch names - James became Jacobus, for example. Andrew had another daughter, Mary (Marya in church records) who married abt 1705 in Piscataway. I'd really like to see what you have on Sarah and Jonathan's descendants, and if you want any data on Andrew's other children, let me know and I'll send you a GEDCOM. BTW, Andrew is my 8-G-grandfather. Eunice: Hi cousin! I am also descended from James Curtis BIRD through his second wife Elizabeth MONTOUR. Their daughter Letitia married a famous Oregon pioneer Charles Richard MCKAY, Sr. My record shows that your gg grandfather George BIRD was a son of his second wife, Oomenhowiska aka Mary, who was a full-blood Cree. I have 20 children for James Curtis Bird. His parents were James BIRD and Elizabeth CURTIS from Winchester England. They were married in London on 5/30/1773. I have nothing earlier than this. My record shows that George married Mary Ann THOMAS, daughter of Thomas THOMAS (a Chief Factor of HBC) and Sarah. Will be glad to share information. Gordon W. Pace siriuspace@aol.com
Hi! to all my relatives in Canada and the US. I am new to this and 'computer illiterate' as well ,so please have patience!!! I have spent a lot of my computer time lately reading messages from the archives from people who are also descendants of my Great-Great-Great Grandfather, James Curtis Bird. I am descended through his son George, and George's son William T. to my Grandfather who was also named William. My Father was William Reginald--(it would seem they ran out of first names!!) Would love to hear from any of my Bird relatives. I have some info on several members I would gladly share. Eunice (Bird) Groves , Chilliwack ,BC, Canada.
