Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the surname Burrage. Some of my ancestors have this surname but I have been told that the original surname was Bird and that it was changed over time to Burrage. Any info/ideas greatly appreciated. vr dw
Hello all, I'm researching the line of Hugh (b.1840) and Ellen (b.1845) Bird, who emigrated from Ireland sometime before 1881? They had at least 5 children (one of whom was Owen, b. in NYC in 1881). If anyone out there has any info... I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Cyn Bird cmzt@webspan.net

Genevieve, there was a Thomas Bird and a William Bird in Perry Co., TN about the time your Joshua was born. Thomas and William had applied for a mill or bought property with a mill on it. I have that document somewhere in my tons of Bird stuff. The reason I researched them was because my Thomas had a brother William and Thomas married in Lawrence Co., TN in 1818. I think Lawrence borders Perry or is maybe one county over. Hope this helps. Glenda

Is there a Coat-of-Arms for the BIRD family?
Hello listers, I have not put much effort yet into investigating my 4g grandmother Sara Ann Bird, born 13 Dec 1778, and died 14 Jan 1850 in Lodi, Seneca Co, NY. She started out in Easton, Northampton Co, PA and moved to Lodi in 1823. I don't know where she was born. She married Peter Meddick, and it is through the Meddick Genealogy research that I know of her. I would like an education on the Bird family of NJ. Is there a book on the descendants of Andrew Bird and the NJ Birds? In Seneca Co, NY, I have found records of members of the BURD family, but no BIRDS. Is this a known spelling variation of the same NJ group? Easton, PA is just across the Delaware, and appears to be a likely spot for a NJ Bird family looking for more farmland to raise a family. Does anyone know of such a migration from the NJ clan to the area of Easton, that might provide me with clues as to who might be the parents of Sara Ann? Thanks so much, Bruce Woodworth

Hi! help... I have always been told by my grandmother that our heritage was black dutch. I read a posting I think on this list today about the native American's with the name Bird from Virginia. I just last week found out my Matilda (Caroline) was from Virginia. She married Elihu Lacey Morris of the Sevierville, Townsend, TN area. Their son was albert Leonidis Morris. Can someone direct me to information on Native americans in the VA area? Thanks Cindy Sheldon Knoxville, TN

Fellow Bird Researchers: In searching in the CherokeeGene rootsweb list looking for Indian connections for my Byrds (likely Byrds I should say) on the Frontiers of SW VA 1760s, I came across this interesting post of February 19th, 1999. Seems as though one of our own is the current Chief and may be in political difficulty in Oklahoma. (Does the political bent come from some mixed blood from the VA Wm Byrds I, II and III??).
