    1. [BIRD-L] Elisha Bird, 1684, NJ
    2. Judy Pisano
    3. Dear Fellow Bird Researchers, As some of you already know, I have uploaded a lot of data concerning the Bird family in New Jersey and other related families on my website. I'm afraid that some of this information might be incorrect. As I state on my page, this info comes from my own research, posted family trees on ancestry.com, other web pages, things other people have shared with me, and a book on the Bird family. One "fact" that I had seen a few places was that my 7-G- grandfather, Elisha Bird, was the son of Andrew Bird of Long Island, the father of a few sons that raised their families in NJ. AsI looked at the data I had, it seemed Andrew's other sons all had a lot in common as to where they lived, how their children and grandchildren were named, etc; Elisha didn't share any of these similarities. I began to try to find out why people would say that Elisha was Andrew's son, and could find nothing to tie them together. I asked on this list and the genforum list; sent emails to a few people I consider to be very knowledgable about Andew Bird's family; even spoke to the author of the book, and no one had any support for the relationship. So, since I have my doubts about this, I am "disconnecting" Elisha from Andrew in my database and at the next update of my website. I apologize to anyone who used that data from my website. It might still turn out that Elisha is Andrew's son, but until I have something to tie them together, I will assume they are not. Need to correct his birthdate tho - he was born in 1745, not 1725 - sorry. My Robert Bird married Catherine Cady (not sure if Cady was her last name or a nickname.) She was born in Maryland in 1758. They had seven children - all born in North Carolina. They settled in Knox County (later Whitley County, Kentucky sometime between 1792 and 1805.) Sometime before 1810 one or more of Robert Bird's sons went back to North Carolina. Their last known residence was in Moore County. Jan Wilson Kings Mills, Ohio

    2. This is the URL for the Time Magazine Cover Story, issue of April 14, that is on genealogy. A good portion of it seems to be on line, but I have never made comparisons on the hard cover version vs. online version. The link is on the top right side at the picture. Story title is "How to trace your roots". Picture is of course a tree. Wonder who first used the expression "family tree"?? http://cgi.pathfinder.com/time/aol/index.html Janet Hunter

    1. [BIRD-L] George Byrd - Delaware
    2. Dear List, I am hoping that someone out there can help me. My husbands grandfather George Henry Byrd was born in Wilmington Delaware on January 2, 1890. They always talked of the Byrd brothers Tom, Dick and Harry and also talked of a Texas connection. Would anyone be able to tell me how this George Byrd was related to them? Thank you so much for any information. Marcy Byrd MByrd6573@aol.com

    3. Joshua Bird, b. ca 1744, enlisted for the Virginia Line in King George County, VA and was in Nelson Co., KY to apply for his pension in 1819. I do not know where he died but apparently several of his children's marriages appear in records at Bardstown: Sally m. Separate Hendrickson; Francis m. 1st Rhody Scamerhorn & 2nd Mary Hines; Polly m. Davis Merridith and Rebecca m. Jos. Devore. Anyone else researching this Bird? 3. Glenda, You have given me quite a bit of help. It does still give me the possiblility that my ancestor Robert Clark Tate was married to Mary, the daughter of William. She would have been the aunt of Tom, Dick, and Harry. A lady from Texas is trying to find the 1860 and 1870 census records to see if she can find William and Jenny. I have no idea when the family moved back to VA from Texas. Shirley Moore smoore03@mail.orion.org
