This list for for the spellings BIRD/BURD/BYRD and many of us have at least two of the spellings in our lines, some like Tina even have all three.     3. If you want the update here it is, if not Please delete. We have made it thru the storm with little damage. I had a tree limb fall taking my power and phone lines out. There's still one limb dangling guess I'll have to see if one of these teenage boys will help remove it. Several homes in the area have trees down and we're still getting winds and mist and it's 78ยบ here. But for the most part we were spared. Now we have to pray that Hurricane Gert decides not to follow Floyd's path and stays away from us. Daytona beach is still getting gusty winds and strong surfs, in fact 100 feet of the Main street pier was lost to the ocean in the pass hour. Roads out of Orlando to the coast are clogged and moving very slowly. Thank You to all of you that sent your letters of prayers to me. It really shows that genealogists are very careing and loving people. Now lets us all send our prayers to those who are in South and North Carolina, and hopefully they will be spared as lightly as Floridians were.     3. Hi all! I will be sending some more info to the group today. I didn't want to overload your mailbox yesterday. <grin> (Lisa, the listowner, will be shocked to see all the activity when she is safely out of harms way, and gets back to us. hehe) I'm so glad to see the posts. We won't find anything if we don't post, right? (I believe I read that in the confirmation letter yesterday - I re-read it.) We need to stay active, so we CAN find that elusive relative! I am currently updating my marriage records. Most of you know about this. I have most of BYRD marriages posted and will be updating with the BURD marriages soon. (There were only about 36 of them.) Now I'm working on updating the BIRD marriages. I am hoping that these records posted at my site will help some of you out there. I have these records set up by state, and years, and have posted the surnames beside each one, so you don't have to search the records blind. I 've listed before but to no avail, but here goes: Thomas Bird b ca 1817 Alabama d ca 1868/69 married Polly Higdon August 5, 1838 in Marshall County AL Thomas enlisted in Capt Griffins Company, Colonel Snodgrass's North Alabama Mounted Voluntyeers at Bellefonte Alabama on October 26, 1837 to fight in the Seminole War ( called the Florida War 1835-1842) He was discharged April 11, 1838 at Fort Mitchell Alabama. Between 1838 and 1840 Thomas and Polly moved to Gallatin county Illinois. Children of this marriage are: Rebecca Jane Bird born 1844 Gallatin County Illinois Andrew J. A tenant at the two-family house we own is a descendant of Jesse BIRD who lived in Massachusetts sometime in the early 1800s (I wasn't taking notes at the time), and has paintings of him and his wife. She has some information on this line, if anybody is interested in it. My own BIRD ancestors start with Henry BIRD, who arrived in Westchester County, NY circa 1750 and settled in Rye. He was orphaned on the trip over from Holland, and he and one or more brothers (whom we have no record of) became indentured servants to pay for their trip. The family name originally was VOGEL (Dutch for Bird), but we believe he was of ENglish ancestry, and his family had moved to Holland during the religious troubles in England. -- Jeff Hecht, jhecht@world.std.com
