I would appreciate anyone's help with documentation and corrections. THANKS! Wiley BIRD, Sr. was born about 1785 in NC. He died about 1844 in Bulloch County, GA. He is on a draft no show list of February 16, 1779, but shows up on a roster of Captain John Mills Company of Col. Henry Hampton's Regt. of SC Light Dragoons of General Thomas Sumter's Brigade. Some of these SC units were formed in NC by exiles who had been dispersed by the British and banded together under General Sumter. 1787 - Jonas received a Headright/Bounty Grant in Richmond County, GA for 500 acres between Spirit Creek and McBean Creek. 1794 - 1802 - Jonas appears in Screven County, GA Plat Book A along with his son William and Son-in-law Joshua Gay and Jacob Daughtry. Jonas's land in Screven County is situated along Dry Branch. 1802 - Jonas is in Bulloch County around 1802, in time to draw for the 1805 Land Lottery. It is thought that Jonas died around 1802. Mary Bird of Bulloch County, GA, Tillmans Militia District, drew Land Lot #354, section 7, Gwinnett County, GA in the 3rd (1820) Land Lottery of Georgia. Under the listing "Joney Bird" we find: 1 male 26-45 (Jonas); 1 female 16-26 (Jonas's wife); and 1 female 45 & up (probably Mary). On December 11, 1823, William Bird, Wiley Bird, Joel Bird, Jonas Bird, Anne Gay, Joshua Gay, Penny Williamson, Jacob Daughtry, and Viney Brownin appoint Joel Highsaw, their lawyer, to sell the above mentioned land. I am quoting the following from memory. Rebekah Bird married Nathan Clarke and they were in Sumner County TN 1790's. I think my source says Rebekah was daughter of Robert Bird of Dobbs Co NC. A Edward Bird was in Sumner Co TN early to mid 1790's. I believe he was a bondsman or witness to a marriage. Rebekah was grandmother to some degree to a lady real estate agent currently in Robertson Co TN vicinity. I am interested in the Robertson Co TN Byrds and the Carroll Co TN Birds. Do you have anything to tie John, Rebekah, Robert, & Edward to Robertson Co TN Byrds? I think Rebekah & Nathan Clarke came to Sumner Co TN by way of East TN. I currently have big problems of identification of John, Robert, William, & Francis Bird (1822 to 1850 time frame) of Carroll Co TN and the Robertson Co TN Byrds. They are of the same families but appear next to impossible to sort out. Any clues appreciated. He disappeared (died or killed) before 1830, reported by his granddaughter, Mary Bean Byrd, that he went to Texas on an exploration trip and is believed that he traveled through Oklahoma and was probably killed by the Indians. However according to a G'Granddaughter Mrs. Foster Round, ( Nobia Byrd), he was robbed and killed on his way home from Natchez, MS. so apparently no one knows actually what happened to him. Eden was a pretty wealthy farmer. He left his wife with 2 sons and 4 daughter and 6 slaves. Ann's father died in 1804, and his widow remarried to a Mr. Spring. Dear Bird researchers: My earliest Birds thus far: James Bird, possibly born in TN before 1815 or so. He was married to Catharine Tennessee LeGate, who was born in TN, also around or before 1815. Their son, William H. Bird, b. 1836 in AR, was married four times - his fourth wife was Anna Beavers, whom he married around 1880. She died around 1919, he died around 1920 in Lonoke AR. Their children: Moody, Sanky, Alonzo, Lou and one daughter, Apsie Ruby. Their daughter, Apsie Ruby Bird b. 1901 in Lonoke, married George M. Dooley around 1921 or so in Lonoke. They had three children: Anna Jean, Goerge M and Edward M. Any help on finding the parents of James Bird (or Catharine Tennessee Legate) would be appreciated.
Hi hate to bother everyone but I noticed a lot of mail being sent back today saying "Not a subscriber" If any of you have changed your mailing address or your mail server changed it even slightly, Please let me know. I think I've caught all the ones that have post in the past two days, so it will only be those that haven't posted yet. Well Tom hummm, Actually with the fact that the list is just under 400 members this list doesn't stay busy all the times. I can't see breaking the list by spelling or by location. >From what I've noticed in my research some families have gone by all three spellings and I'm really thinking the BIRD/BURD/BYRD's had wings for they don't seem to stay in one place long<grin>. Following the start of my line of BIRD/BURD's from NJ and they went to PA, IL, UT and OH. Guess that might explain why two members of my latter line were born in PA and OH, parents were visiting relatives? Remember not only do we have this mailing list but there's also the GENCONNECT boards where you can post Queries, Bible records, Bio's,Deeds, Obits, Pensions and Wills. These boards are a great place to put those documents you have tucked away that are not your line. I have the BIRD and BURD boards on my webpage, the BYRD boards were adopted by someone else. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/5421/burdpage.html Then there the possibly that different members start State pages of BIRD/BURD/BYRD on their webpages. I have a page on my site that's for COOKCOOKE/KOCH in NY and hope to one day have one for BIRD/BURD/BYRD in NY also. Lisa Cleversey P.S.
