I recently saw a query re George Bird and can't find it now. This is a possiblity. Please e-mail me if this person thinks there maybe a connection. 1860 Menard CO ILL census Pettersburg postoffice twp 19 rang 7 p 74/5 l 530/506 Simeon Burd 28 b NY (family bible says PA) Mary 24 Ohio John 5 Mich Mary(Ida) 3 Ind Geo W 2 Ill (this is son of Simeon) Geo W SEN 23 farm laborer NY (I believe this is Simeons brother (sr)? or possibly a cousin) Julia (Ann ?) 16 PA ( Simeons sister) Both Simeon and George list their birthplaces as NY as did Simeon in later census records. However his own family Bible give his birth as PA . Simeon is found in 1850 census for Ind, Noble county (Mary Ida was born in Noble CO IND) with Randolph Bird and family. I believe this to be his father. Note Simeons b listed as PA. George does not appear in this census with the family. I believe this family to be descendants of William and Mary Bird/Burd of Westmoreland co PA. Virginia Richardson VRNarnia@aol.com

> What the heck is meant by "...leading his exposed men within the fort, > >without > >orders." > >I would think one needn't be armed while INSIDE the fort. > > > >James James, At the Battle of Ft. Necessity, the garrison at the fort initially faced off with the French troops outside the fort and exchanged volleys with them for a time. Being outnumbered by the French and Indian force, however, it was not a good idea to try to slug it out for long, and the garrison troops soon made an orderly retreat through the front gate of the fort. It sounds to me like this officer decided to withdraw his men to the fort before he had orders from Col. Washington, his commanding officer, allowing him to do so. Regards, Bruce

Launa...in answer to your question: Yes, this book, written by Robert Earl Byrd, was published posthumously by the author's daughter after both parents were killed in an automobile accident. In the first section of the book, Robert wrote short histories of the many Byrds in England and Virginia that he had collected while researching. He never did establish which ones he might have descended from, but his lineage starts with John Byrd and Rebecca Sutton of Chowan, Bertie, and Duplin Co NC., and Sumter District SC. I couldn't really figure out Roberts numbering sytem...so instead I copied a pedigree chart to a web page, which I will delete in a few days.... For those of you interested, it is at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~barlow/Byrd.html Charlie.... I don't find William Wilson, but do find a Wilson...apparently the son of Redden Byrd and Elizabeth Cain .... he was born 1847 in Arkansas buried in Cain Cemetery. No other info on him. Tina... Your Byrds are in the back of the book, along with mine, all Byrds in Mississippi that Robert could never connect to his. Being all in the same area's, there is bound to be a connection, just don't know where. Mine were neighbors of his in Simpson, Jones, Perry, and Copiah Co. But to date, nobody has been able to prove the connection. I have 3 Byrd women married to my Barlows...and we cannot prove their parents, nor their relations to one another..... Here is what Robert wrote about your Byrds. 1. William Byrd b ____ d. 1845, m. Essue (Ishi) Lang on June 29, 1809. 2. William Seton Byrd, b. 1830 2. Leonard C. Byrd, m 1. Mary Magdeline Eady, b. 1833. m. 3-23-2848 m. 2. Catherine Thomas 3. Elizabeth Byrd b. 1849 3. Louvilla Byrd, m. A. J. Taylor on January 22, 1880 3. Wade Byrd, m. Roxann Walker on February 05, 1880 4. Wallace E. Byrd m. Katy Crum 1912 2. James A. Byrd, m. Eliza Westrope on 4-25-1852 2. Ransom Byrd, b. 1828, m. Mary Jane Crane on 5-25-1852 2. Arrita Byrd married John Taylor on 5-17-1832 2. Elizabeth Byrd m. Edwin M. Wade on 10-23-1850 2. Edwin/Edward Byrd m. Rebecca Crum on 11-28-1848. Edwin died March 1849, no children State Papers - February 20, 1850 - Case 63 Amite Co Mississippi "Rebecca Byrd, widow of Edwin Byrd, who died March 1849, leaving no children "asks for one year's provisions out of the effects of the deceased." The three who were asked to settle the estate gave Rebecca $100.00 for a year's support. Among the people who were paid debts out of the estate were: Talbert, Dye, Anderson, Huff, Forsythe, James A. Byrd, and L.C. Byrd. On the back of the final settlement papers were: William S. Byrd, Leonard C. Byrd, James A. Byrd, Ransom Byrd, Retta Taylor, and Elizabeth Wade, wife of E. M. Wade, are named as brothers and sisters of the deceased, all of age and living in Amite Co MS. In sale of property, slave Pheba and Chile, June, belonging to Edwin, went at public auction to Ransom Byrd, highest bidder, for $586.00, 8-17-1850. Other references: Mississippi Marriage Records Mississippi Census Records Mississippi Personal Tax Records I hope you can gather at least one iota of information from that that you didn't already have! Nancy.. I don't see anything about your Thomas, even in the preface where he outlines the many Byrds from England, Virginia, N. and S. C.......sorry...... Did I miss anybody? If I did, please don't hesitate to ask again. I tend to get into so many projects, I get totally confused...which doesn't take much for my feeble mind! still looking for information on my Burd's parents etc. all I know is: Susanah(various spellings) aka Eliza. She was born 2-Apr-1827 and died 28-Aug-1892 at Putneyville PA. She married John Frederick Gearhart on 12 Apr 1846 at a place near Greensburg, Westmorland Co. PA. I would appreciate any help. Thank you, Connie
This Joshua Bird served in Rev. War from Virginia and was in Nelson Co. by late 1700s. Who was his wife? His children?? Any help appreciated.
Hi Terry, Thank you for sharing all that information with us! Mary Kay
I am reposting my Bird line in the hopes that someone can help get me out of this dead end. Benjamin Bird (1792-1825) was born and died in Broome County, New York. His widow married William Moore and the family consisting of Harriet Bird (1817-1876), George J. Bird (1818-1880), Charles G. Bird (1820-1893) and Benjamin N. Bird (1823-??) moved to Michigan in 1831. Charles G. married Mary A. Hood and they had the following children: Martin A. Bird (1848-??), Charles H. Bird (1853-1929), and John H. Bird (1862-??). John H. married Helena Kirkup and they had one son, my great grandfather Donald K. Bird. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Michele Robinson
