    3. Your information on the Lords and Birds is essentially correct, but there are a few mistakes. In 1636, with his entire family, ranging in age from 4 to 25, Thomas Lord joined the party of Reverend Thomas HOOKER and Mr. Stone, and one hundred men, women and children which took it's departure from Newtown to form a new settlement on the Connecticut River. They traveled more than one hundred miles through a hideous and trackless wilderness to HARTFORD. These were the first settlers of Hartford. There is a plaque in front of one of the entrances to Harvard University that commemorates this event and marks it as the starting place of Rev. Thomas Hooker's party who founded Hartford, CT. Also, I found one internet source that mentioned that Dorothy Bird and Thomas Lord had 12 children. I have eight of them, but have never verified the other four. I am descended from John, born in 1623. And I have Dorothy Lord born 1 Jul 1629 as the last of their children. If my info is correct, then Dorothy is definitely the daughter of Dorothy Bird. Well, I am not saying that this is true, but I do believe that when we search high and low for something and there is plenty of info on the subject as in this case, then there is a reason why we can't find the documentation. Here is what my grandfather said: John Ingersoll (1615-84) from Eng. with his bro, Richard; went from Salem, Mass to Hartford, Conn. 1651; to Westfield, Mass; m. 1651 Dorothy Lord (d.1656) dau. of Thomas Lord. He joined Reverand Thomas Hoskins' party in founding Westford, Connecticut in 1636. He married 1610-1611 to Dorothy Bulkeley dau. of Rev. Richard. Married (2) 1616 to Dorothy Bird (1589-1670); dau. of Robert Bird. Well that seems to lead me to believe that Dorothy Bulkeley died before 1616 and he married Dorothy Bird. It is Dorothy Bird that traveled with him to the New World. Do you have a copy of Dorothy's dad's will, Robert Bird? You notice that my grandfather never said which of the ladies were the mother of Dorothy Lord. It all hinges on when Dorothy was born. I put that she was born aft. 1610/11 since that was the marriage date. If she was born after 1616 then she would be the daughter of Dorothy Bird. Do you know of any other children of Thomas Lord? 1. [BIRD-L] Thomas, Benj Sr & Jr. ?? Buncombe Co NC 1790s
    2. Launa and Fellow Bird Researchers: When trying out a new search engine (www.alltheweb.com, which turned up things others didn't for me), I came across a set of transcribed Buncombe Co court recrods ca 1794-1795. I have not gone through them with a fine tooth combe, but at the April 1795 session, Benjamin BIRD Sr. enters some estate administration papers for Benjamin Bird Jr., Thomas BIRD gave bond and security. The Bird brothers are also involved in the estate of Thomas ALLISON. Here is the URL for the session mentioning Thomas Bird and Benjamin Bird. Follow the links at the end of the page for more information: http://www.main.nc.us/OBCGS/ctmin_3.htm Does anyone know who these fellows are???? My best, Janet Hunter
