    3. Do you remember when you signed on to your first mailing list? Remember how scared you were of making a mistake? Remember when you MADE your first mistake? I do, I signed on to my first mailing list in Jan 1996. I thought I was helpping my fellow researchers by sending in a virus warning, I didn't know it was a hoax. Because of this mistake I was yelled at and treated baddly, I almost quit. Thank goodness a kind soul wrote me and explained that those emails weren't true and shouldn't be send to the mailing list. I'm sure alot of you have made mistakes and got the emails too. PLEASE everyone before you send an email yelling at someone for a mistake think back to when you were a beginner. Instead of the harsh email send a helpping email, you never know the person you may yell at may have the connection you need. For those of you who are new the following messages are not for the list; Virus warnings, telephone charges, if so many emails are send then this organization will donate so much, messages in all Capital letters (this is read as yelling on the internet), poems. In short if it's not Genealogy related don't send it. If your not sure then ask me. Thanks and Good Luck in your searches, Lisa R. Isn't this amazing? Note that Stephen BIRD/Byrd married Isaac and Rachel H. Arledge's daughter Sarah "Sally" Arledge. This material also has led me to realize that Rachel's last name was probably spelled HERRINGTON rather than HARRINGTON, and that it is probably what the "H" in John H. 3. This has been updated on 25 April, 2000 - please check the Web Site - very informative for future research. The NARA proposal to revamp the system and fees for providing copies of Military Service Records, Bounty-Land Warrant Applications Files, and Pension Application Files has been published in the 25 April 2000 issue of the Federal Register. Public comment is invited and should be directed to: NARA Regulation Comment Desk 8601 Adelphi Road College Park, MD 20740-6001 Fax: 301 713-7270 The comment period closes on 26 June 2000. NARA prefers that you use either the postal address or fax number to submit our comments rather than e-mail A complete copy of the Federal Register notice is available from the NARA Web site at http://www.nara.gov/nara/fees-pro.html. The proposed Reproduction Fee Schedule covers a number of items, but the Military Service Records, and the Pension and Bounty-Land Warrants are of the greatest concern to genealogists. NARA proposes three major changes: 1. The NATF Form 80 would be discontinued, to be replaced by two new forms: NATF Form 85 to request both Bounty-Land Warrant application files and Pension files (more than 75 years old), and NATF From 86 to request Military Service Records (more than 75 years old). 2. For all three types of files, NARA would no longer send a selection of pages, but would send the complete file. This would eliminate the two-step process currently used and should be beneficial to most genealogists. 3. The fees for all three types of files would be raised. For Military Service Records the new fee would be $17.00, regardless of the number of pages included in the file. For Bounty-land Warrants the fee would be $17.25, again without regard to the number of pages. For Pension Files the fee would be $40.00, regardless of the number of pages. Finally, the proposal would go into effect on 1 September 2000, if approved. Many genealogists may consider the proposed fees to be excessive. NARA specifically invites comment on the proposed fee schedule. The FGS/NGS Records Preservation and Access Committee urges everyone who wants to comment to carefully read the full proposal before submitting comments. The proposed fees are intended to cover the actual cost of locating, copying and mailing the records and are based on the average size of the files. NARA states that the average for Military Service Records and Bounty-land Applications is somewhere under 20 pages, while the average for full Pension Files is 105 pages. The FGS/NGS Records Preservation and Access Committee will be looking at the NARA proposal carefully, and will submit comments as appropriate. Individuals who would like to provide input to the Committee's evaluation are welcome to do so but are also encouraged to comment direct to NARA at the address given above. Comments for Committee consideration should be e-mailed to fgs-access@fgs.org, or mailed to Federation of Genealogical Societies, Attention: RPAC, PO Box 200940, Austin, TX 78720-0940. In order for the Records Preservation and Access Committee to adequately evaluate such input it must be received by 26 May 2000. The deadline for comment to NARA, however, is still 26 June 2000. Posting of this message to other mail lists is encouraged. A copy of this message will also be available on the Records Preservation and Access page of the FGS Web site <http://www.fgs.org/fgs-recordsnews.htm> and on the NGS Web site <http://www.ngsgenealogy.org> Patsy Hamrick Weikart California State Librarian - 2000 -2002 CSSDAR

While looking at the LDS FamilySearch website, I came across entries in the IGI which implied that David BIRD of East Buffaloe Twp, Lycoming, PA (birth date about 1770?) was from Bedminster, Somerset Co, NJ. David had a son David, and David Jr. had children Margaret b 1829, George b 1832, John b 1834, Thomas E. b 1842, and Anna b 1844. Does anyone have any information on this family? 2. I am looking for information on Emery J. Byrd he could possibly be named Josiah E. Byrd born around 1843 married Mary Francis (Barnett) Byrd in Boone County Arkansas in Dec. 1870. They are on the Izard County Arkansas 1870 census in the Conway Township. He was in the Civil War and was wounded there. I think his Father could be named Wyatt Byrd, Mother-Alphia Byrd, Brother-Elamm Byrd, Sister-Charlotte Byrd, and sister-Elizabeth Byrd they are all on the Izard County Arkansas 1850 Census. Any information would be appreciated, thank-you. Bren

    1. [BIRD-L] Hester Bird (1767-1855), wife of Burrell Perry, NC to GA to TN
    2. petehamilton
    3. I am interested in corresponding with anyone having knowledge of or interest in the family of Hester Bird, wife of Burrell Perry. Hester (or Esther, I've seen the name spelled both ways) was born in NC (probably in or near Franklin Co) on 8 Sept 1767. On 22 December 1789, in Franklin Co, NC, she married Burrell Perry. They later moved to Wayne Co, GA, and ultimately to Williamson Co, TN. I know that Hester had a sister, Elizabeth Bird, who never married, and lived with the Perry family all her adult life. I also know that Hester's parents died (back in NC) while the Perrys lived in GA (probably in the late 1790s or early 1800s). The only other clue that I have on my Bird ancestors is that Hester Bird Perry's daughter, Emily Perry Hamilton, named one of her sons Alexander Bird Hamilton. I would love to learn more about my Bird ancestors.
