My ancestor William Birch was born in Scioto County, Ohio in 1888 according to the 1900 Census. At this time he was living with his widowed Grandmother, Margaret Dutiel. I recently came across a marriage license notice in a Portsmouth, Ohio (Scioto County) newspaper dated 1887 for Sylvester Birch and Mary Dutiel. I believe these people may be the parents of my ancestor William Birch who was born in July, 1888. In census records for 1880 Sylvester was not living to far from the Dutiel household however there is no Mary Dutiel but three Dutiel daughters with the middle initial "M."
