I have them all except the children of Milford Birch, my mother's brother. Of his children I have one that is on the Moon or Mars or maybe even Pluto. Shirley Birch born according to 1930 Census of Montpelier, Idaho, was born in 1919 I have nothing else ecxept the Obituary of her father, Milford Birch, which stated one of the survining children was "Shirley McKee of Arizona." All of my family and extended families have gone to the happy hunting ground. I do not wish to go that far in my search just yet! Milton B. Clay Lancaster, CA.

    3. Hi Micheal, Thank you so much for letting me know that you had managed to spend some time with John. I am ever so pleased he is well again and that he is indeed up and running in trying to connect people who have Birch contacts like us all. I will give John a call sometime and touch base. I really eny you as it sounds like you had a good few hours with John and were able to find your roots. Also to get a copy of the Birch chronicle is really wonderful, something I would love to get myself. I may have to get him to book me the 2nd chronicle he puts out. I am trying to trace my Birch's in Staffordshire area mainly Leek, Ipstones, Kingsley,Whiston and froghall last time John couldnt find any of them mainly my gggrandfather Joseph Birch born 1781 in Leek he married a Hannah Bardell. So if you come across any from these areas you will know they belong to me. Thank you once again for letting me know about John, I guess now he will be flooded with enquires so will let the dust settle before I make contact so as not to bog him down. Kind regards. 3. Dear Birch Colleagues, If you cast your mind back to May, you will recall that I hoped to call in on John Birch while travelling in the UK from NZ. I am now able to say that on 27 June I visited John at his home on the edge of Leicester, just off the M1. He made me so welcome. John has a slight connection with NZ, insofar as one of his daughters, Alison, now a speech therapist, spent some time there. As some of you suspected, I found that John had not been well last year, but he is now much recovered. We enjoyed a lovely couple of hours - talking generally about the Birches and spending time at his computer while he pushed back the boundaries of my Cheshire Birches a little on Ancestry. John was able to find the birthplace of my ggg grandfather Henry Birch in the late 1790s. It turned out to be the village of Partington, Cheshire. Do any of you connect to Partington? It is now considered part of Greater Manchester. I asked John where the great centres of origin of the Birches were, within the British Isles, and he told me there were three : Ireland (Tipperary), Yorkshire, and Manchester; he added that there was also a significant group in Staffordshire. John honoured me with a copy of his book The Birch Chronicles Vol 1, and told me he has begun work on Vol 2. John also showed me his copy of a book written in 1998 by Bernie O'Neil (USA) about his wife's Birch ancestry, which includes good introductory pages on the English Birches. I was also shown a book written in 1992 by Joan Gouldston of Bovey Tracey (Devon) which covers her ancestry in the Manchester Birches. John assures us that he is now in a position to answer email inquiries again. He receives about 34 emails a day, and has entered 60,000 names on his data base. One of the reasons some of us didn't get email replies from John last year was that the Tiscali server started to malfunction and a whole lot of emails never reached him. That persuaded John to leave Tiscali, and as many of you know, his address is now birch659@btinternet.com. John told me he plans to build a website "in a bit". I told him that some of us on the List had wondered if we could help with funding, though he and I did not reach any conclusion on that. John is such a hospitable man, and I am sure he would welcome other Birch members if passing. His phone number is +44.116.2772550. 3. Does anyone have any information on an Alfred Birch (a labourer) born between 1955-1858 near Chelsea? I know that he married Mary Ann Owers in 1881 in St Pauls Church, Paddington, London. I also know that in 1881 he was living at 32 Desborough Terrace, Paddington, Middlesex, England. They had 3 children Charlotte, Lillian Mary (my wifes g-g-grandmother) and Emily. Unfortunately that is all I know about Alfred Birch. I can't find hiom on the censuses before that time. I know from his marriage certificate that his father was James Birch (a shoemaker). I could not find him on the censuses but he was still alive in 1890 when his daughter Emily was born but I know that he had died by 1907 as that is what was stated on his dughter Lillian Mary's marriage certificate. If anyone can shed any light on Alfred Birch, his siblings or his parents it would be much appreciated. All the best Dave Redmond _________________________________________________________________ The next generation of MSN Hotmail has arrived - Windows Live Hotmail http://www.newhotmail.co.uk
