I am looking at the first marriage certificate, of William and Ellen BIRCH 1861, its got William as a Fireman County of Derby Birth Certificate of my Great Grandfather William Day BIRCH, its Locomotive Stoker, County of Derby. On the second marriage certificate, William and Eliza BIRCH, Engine Driver 1867, County of Surrey That is all the information that I have got so far. 3. Hi All,   I wonder if any of you have connections with the Birch's on the Hampshire Berkshire border! I managed to track my Birch roots back to East Woodhay circa 1790 his name was David and on all census he was recorded as from East Woodhay. PR's checked an nothing, although there were a few Birchs registered. So for some years I have been trying to break through this supposedly impenetrable obstacle!   Any thoughts on how I can resolve this, gratefully receieved,   Den

    3. Hi Monica, thank you so much for replying to my email. I have been told that William and Ellen BIRCH, were killed. This is not correct at all. I found William and Ellen BIRCH, in 1861 Census. >From Derby, in the name of Ruch of Barck, of all names. The ones who did census in 1861, very bad hand writing. This is the only time I have found them. The other one is 1871 census William and Eliza BIRCH, sorry this has been confusing to you and to the others who have read my message. I have been trying to find some answers with no luck at all. Once again thank you very much for your time and help. 3. Hello to everyone one on the list. I am trying to find out about a 2nd marriage of William BIRCH to Eliza OVERY, September 1867, when the marriage took place in Lambeth. Can anyone help me out with this. I have been doing a family research on the BIRCH FAMILY, so this has come of a bit of a shock to me. As I have been told that William BIRCH and his first wife Ellen Birch nee MATHER. If anyone can help me out with this I will be very appreciated. Thanking you Anne

    3. Hi Anne I'm absolutely no expert in genealogy but my impression is that divorces were uncommon and very much the exclusive domain of the rich. Can you give more details about William Snr? Place and date of birth? Where is he in 1861 and 1871? Cheers Jane ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter & Anne" <pal190@tpg.com.au> To: <BIRCH@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 27, 2010 6:37 AM Subject: [BIRCH] rebirch family > > > Hi Jane and I cannot remember the other person, Thank you so much for your > help and > suggestions. > > I have another question was there many divorces, back in those days ? > > Many Thanks > > Anne > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > BIRCH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes > in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Hi Anne His second marriage certificate should state his 'condition'. One would expect it to say 'widower', unless you've stumbled on something more interesting! Assuming all is in order, I'd be looking for the death of Ellen between 1861 and 1867. Do you have a geographical 'fix' on him via the 1861 and 1871 censuses? Any children of the first marriage? When and where was William born? Best wishes Jane ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter & Anne" <pal190@tpg.com.au> To: <BIRCH@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 26, 2010 2:21 AM Subject: [BIRCH] birch family > > > Hi List, > > Can anyone help me out with this please.
