I am seeking news of Billy and/or Brian Billington, sons of Dorothy nee Waterton. At one time Billy at least lived in Chicago, and was an officer in the US Air Force. There are about twenty Waterton related cousins hoping to hear from you, and we can let you have the family history back to about 1650 (and trying to get further back). I copied down trees without verifying anything or even writing down my sources ( I was such a novice!). Anyway, I have a tree written down, but no documentation of where it came from, that shows Israel as being the son of Dorcas and Edward May. Israel is shown as having married Elizabeth Barber, and through their son, Edward, the tree goes to a William Elmer Sterling. I presume a Sterling posted the tree, but that's all I can tell you. I'm sorry I don't have more verifiable information, but I hope this helps some! Incidently, I have learned from my aunt, who has verified her sources, that I am descended from Francis' son, Isaac, brother of Dorcas. So I assume we are cousins, very distantly! Good luck!

I looked at the www.criis.com site for a death record of Doug Billington and did not find one. You might want to search it and see if you recognize any of the Billington's. Our Billingtons were Charles Joseph Billington married to Mary R. Donnelly. They had 5 children and resided in Modesto. None of them had a Doug Billington. If you want to try and call the other Billington family you could call their number at 209 522-9004-widow of Arnold Billington, she wasn't any help to me when I tried to call her 2 years ago but I wasn't looking for Doug. I think her daughter may be a help at 209 549-7692. The rest of the Billington's in the phone book belong to me and won't have the Doug Billington name. In your search if you see a Joseph Alfred Billington married to a Mary Carpenter would you let me know? They may have been born in Canada or lived in Minneapolis. When one reads the records of Plimouth Plantation, written by William Bradford and others of his faction, for such it was, the strong impression is made that there was a small minority, led by John Billington, of about four or five families who were considered trouble makers and were persecuted at every opportunity for not cooperating with the "powers that be"--namely Bradford and Standish. This persecution was meted out not only to John but to Elinor his wife, the two sons, John, Jr, and Frances, and on into Frances' adult life with his wife Christian(a) and their children. This got so bad that the family found it necessary to move away from Plimouth to gain some peace. Because of the foregoing, I view the entire episode as one of a politcal nature which is entirely in line with ! the nature of the Puritan movement from the beginning in wanting to control the Church of England to remake it into their concept of worship and dictate how life should be lived. All anyone needs to do is review the history of the Puritans and New England from about 1600 to the present time with an open and inquiring mind.
