In searching my family connections last night, ran across a site with a portion of the family history written in a book by Lonnie Deaton, "The Families of Alexander Deaton Haas, Zackary Deaton Haas, The Billington Family" starting with John's passage and arrival in Plymouth. I found it most intriguing and you may also. I found it on: http://www.census-online.com/links/TX.html Limestone Co. 1. Billington family in Leicestershire and Cheshire
    2. E. J. Richards
    3. Dear Billington Listers, I am new to this list and try to track down my grandfather's family in Leicester and Cheshire. My grandfather Harold Lee Billington was born in 1872 in Birstall, a small village in Leicestershire. His father was John Billington, born 1828 in Birstall, and christened there in 1831. He was a framework knit weaver, and for a time he lived and worked in Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland. His wife was named Sarah Ann Morley. They had nine children, and she died sometime in the late 1870s, since she no longer appears on the 1881 census. I believe that John's father was also named John Billington and that his wife was Mary Ann Naylor and that both were born around 1796 in Cheshire. Three of the boys emigrated to Cleveland. The oldest, John, 1860-1937, was the first police chief in Lakewood, Ohio. Harold (1872-1935) was also a policeman. The youngest of the family was named Frederick and I don't know much at all about him except that he was born in 1878 and emigrated around 1891. I'd be very grateful if anyone could help me with the English roots of the family. Sincerely yours, Jeff Richards Muenster, Germany

    2. Information that can be found in a earch on Google.com or other search engines yields tells of John BILLINGTON, wife, Ellen, and sons John and Francis coming to America on the Mayflower and were regarded as being a 'contentious' family per ships records. One incident tells of their son, Francis BILLINGTON, shooting off a gun near an open barrel of gun power inside a cabin on the ship, Mayflower. John BILLINGTON, Sr., early on after settling in Plymouth, was charged with contempt when he insulted Myles Standish and spoke contemptuously of him. John BILLINGTON, Sr. was sentenced to have his neck and heels tied together but the sentence was dropped after he apologize. John BILLINGTON, Jr., a short time later, after wandering away from the settlement taken to Cape Cod by the Nauset Indians where he lived for month or so before the Indians returned him to his family. John BILLINGTON, Sr., in 1624, was deemed to be involved in the 'OLDHAM-LYFORD' situation. Letter trying to undermine the colony of Plymouth were secretly being set to England. John BILLINGTON, Sr. claimed he was innocent. There wasn't enough information to determined he was involved and so the charges were dropped. Later on in 1630, John BILLINGTON, Sr. was put on trial murder in the death of a man named John NEWCOMEN. John BILLINGTON, Sr. was found guilty of having shot John NEWCOMEN in a quarrel over a previous argument that the two had been in. between the two. John BILLINGTON, Sr. was then the first Englishman to be hanged in New England.
