    2. A while back I had put out the marriage information I found on a James Biggs and Mary Mixon in Covington Co., MS. James born 1780 and they married in 1824. Their children were John 1843, Johainy (?) Ann 1847, and Sarah 1849. It came from the book: Who Married Whom in Covington Co., MS by Janet Smith, Jean Strickland and Patricia Edwards (1991) Anybody know anything on these? ^i^ It's Bev ^i^

    3. Bev: The name James Biggs is listed in the 1820 Covington Co MS census. He's 26-45, with no others in the household. It appears that the Mary Biggs listed as a head of household in the Covington Co 1850 census was Mary (Sanford) Biggs rather than the Mary Mixon who married James Biggs in 1824. My reading of the 1850 Covington Co census shows Mary Biggs as the head of household, aged 24, with children John 7, "Johaisy" Ann 3, and Sarah 1, apparently all born in Mississippi. If these ages are correct, Mary would have been born around 1826 and presumably married around 1842 at the age of 16. See the archived message from Yvonne Davis, dated 2002 and forwarded below, in which she indicates she's descended from Mary (Sanford) Biggs of Covington Co MS and her daughter Sarah, b ca 1849. "Jahazah" is a biblical name. I suspect "Johaisy" is the "Jahaza" Biggs, 12, female, b MS, in the 1860 household of Edward Manning 54 GA and Elizabeth Manning 52 GA in Augusta, Perry County, Mississippi. Only other member of the household is listed as Joseph Biggs, age 11 and born in "Fa.", which I assume is Florida. [Yvonne Davis mentions that her ancestor Sarah Biggs had, in addition to a possible brother Joseph, a maternal aunt named Elizabeth. Possibly she was this Elizabeth Manning.] Rootsweb's WorldConnect Project shows "Jehisia" Biggs (1847-1916), married in Greene Co MS in 1879 William Frank Dunnam. Greene Co borders Perry Co, which is only one county removed from Covington. http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~pastor/ghtout/ipb.htm Because of Dunnam connections, there may be a link between Jahaza/Jehisia Biggs and Anna Eliza Biggs (1844-1925) b Tunnel Springs AL, d Peterman AL. Anna married Joseph Monroe Dees, and their son Tom Dees married Rebecca Ann Dunnam. Tunnel Springs and Peterman are in Monroe Co AL, which is only two counties away from Greene Co MS. [A Dees-Sanford marriage is shown in Ms. Davis' queries to the Rootsweb Message Boards.] Andy Anderson ----- Original Message ----- From: <Bebalebok@aol.com> To: <BIGGS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 19, 2004 10:22 PM Subject: [BIGGS] Biggs/Mixon > A while back I had put out the marriage information I found on a James Biggs > and Mary Mixon in Covington Co., MS. Her father was ? Biggs. Mary and children appear in 1850 census of Covington Co Ms. I don't know if husband, unknown Biggs was dead or if he and Mary was divorced. Shortly after 1850, Mary was married to second husband Isaac Riels. I believe Sarah had an older brother John and another Joseph. I noticed that you give Sarah's middle name as Elizabeth. My SARAH BIGGS had a maternal aunt named Elizabeth. I would like to share info if you see any possibility of a connection. Yvonne Davis
