Planning a trip into Arkansas to shake the old tree. The line that I am studying is the Biggs-Norris line out of Sharp County Arkansas. Anyone with an interest in this line please feel free to contact me via e-mail and we can make arraignments to discuss places and points of interest that might need to be visited and investigated further. My father and I are making the trip through Walnut Ridge, Evening Shade, Hardy, Poughkeepsie, Batesville, and back through Jonesboro onto Memphis. One place we are considering to visit is the County Extension office in Ash Flat. See what we can dig up in the files that they may have. I am considering calling first. Are there any other places that may hold records or misc information within this vicinity? *****major question***** When looking at the 1880 census, each family is listed along side a Dwelling number? Is there a way to cross reference the dwelling number to a physical address or location? For example, Alexander BIGGE (Biggs) is listed as living in Dwelling number 180. Margaret Ann Biggs' parents were John O. Biggs and Sarah Unknown. She had an older sister named Sarah Ott Biggs m. Jacques Quick in 1848; and two brothers (prob. twins) who were born about 1841. They were John I. and William. There is a connection to the Ott line. John O. Biggs (39) and wife Sarah were living in the household of Nicholas Ott (83) and his wife Sarah (78) during the 1850 census. Children, Margaret Ann, John I. and Nicholas were living there as well as a Helen Biggs, who must have been John O's sister (age 29) I have assumed that Nicholas Ott is John's grandfather, though I cannot make a connection as yet. John's wife is thought to be Ann Laberteaux, aka Sarah Ann Laberteaux. That surname is also sometimes found as Laboyteaux. John O. Biggs (43) & Sarah Ann (39), with children Margaret Ann (16), and two sons (both 9) . . . and Helen Biggs (29) are residing at the home of Nicholas (83) & Sarah (78) Ott. I am assuming Helen is John's sister. I have found a 1826 marriage record for John O. Biggs & Ann Laberteaux. If Ann and Sarah Ann are the same person, she would have been about 15 at the time of her marriage. I have found a 1848 marriage record for Sarah Ott Biggs and Jacques Quick. It states that Sarah's parents are John O. Biggs and Ann Laberteaux. There is also the issue that both Sarah Ott (Biggs) Quick & Margaret Ann (Biggs) Phillips migrated to Virginia in 1870 with their husbands and children. I must assume that there is a definite connection here. My theory is that Nicholas and Sarah Ott are the grandparents of either John O. or Sarah Ann (aka Ann Laberteaux?). I have been unsuccessful in finding a will, marriage record, or other documentation to verify this. (Marriage between Ott & Biggs or Ott and Laberteaux, for instance).
