She is listed in the Fountain County census of 1860 with sister Martha (or Marta) b.1849 and brother Harvey (b.1854). Evidently they were orphaned, as they lived in the home of Nancy Wood (listed as born 1807 in Virginia, relationship, if any, is unknown). She married Frank Lingly on Sept.11th, 1877. Both she and her husband died during the 1890s. The 1880 census lists her parents' birthplaces as Indiana, but Harvey lists his birthplaces as unknown (father) and Ohio (mother). Would like to hear from anyone who has any information on this family or is knowledgeable about researching orphans in Indiana.

Another list posted this new information. I thought it might be useful for anyone that might have an ancestor that ended up in Arizona. ACCESS ARIZONA RECORDS ONLINE Last week, the Arizona Department of Health Services unveiled a Web site that will make it easier to get Arizona ancestors' vital records. The site, http://genealogy.az.gov, has a searchable database of 400,000 birth and death records-including actual images of the certificates. You can search by an individual's first and last name, and check options to search for the same first or last name (or both) of the person's parents. Sort results by name, birth date, death date, father's or mother's name, and county. Clicking on the individual's name launches a PDF image of the certificate. (You'll need the free Adobe Reader software, downloadable from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html, to view the image.) Arizona seals birth certificates for 75 years after issue, and death certificates for 50 years. Birth ecords in the database span 1887 to 1928, and death records cover 1878 to 1953. (Look for more information on researching Southwest ancestors in the August 2004 Family Tree Magazine.) Before the Arizona records site launched, genealogists had to pay $3 per request, then wait up to three weeks. The Mesa Regional Family History Center, a branch of the Family History Library, teamed up with the Arizona State Library's archives department to develop the site, which cost $25,000. But accessing Arizona public records could get more difficult on other fronts. An amendment to state House Bill 2357 would allow local governments to charge "a reasonable fee" for the cost of preparing public records for viewing. Current law permits fees for providing copies of documents, but not for preparing them for review, which usually requires striking confidential information. The bill would affect mainly news media-though the media aren't specified in its language-because reporters routinely review recrds for articles. The amendment evolved from a case in which a school employee spent three days preparing records for a television station. Supporters say it would save taxpayer money; critics say it hurts the public's ability to scrutinize government actions. ^i^ It's Bev ^i^ Forget the health food. Kem: Census records and on-line info indicate Sarah Biggs would have been born 1812-1816 rather than 1805. (Age 48 in 1860, 58 in 1870, and 64 in the LDS 1880 transcription.) This would mean that if she's in the 1820 Robeson Co NC census she should have been listed in the "females under 10 years" category. Biggs heads of household in Robeson Co in 1820 (Heritage Quest index) were Elias, Samuel, James, Jas. and John. The way I read their listings, only Elias' and James' households had a female under 10. Elias' household consisted of 1 male under 10, 1m16-25; 1 female under 10, 1f10-15, and one person of foreign birth not naturalized. [This might mean that Elias has a very, very young, foreign-born wife and two small children, or the entry for the foreign-born person may be a mistake and should say a female over 45. If the latter is the case, then the female under 10 could be your Sarah if Elias is unmarried and the head of his widowed mother's household. The children, including this possible Sarah, could be his brother and sisters.] Your Sarah (Biggs) Barlow lived in Marshall Co MS. This county borders Desoto Co MS, where the 1850 census shows 865 E. BIGGS 55 NC male, M. 55 TN female, H. 17 AL male, E. 15 AL male, E. 12 AL female, A. 8 AL female. According to online info, this was the family of Elias and Margaret (Guess) Biggs. I don't know if this is the same Elias who appears in the 1820 Robeson Co NC census. Their ages correspond, but the 1842 Robeson Co will of John McNatt mentions an Elias Biggs as the husband of his daughter Rebecca. The name Elias Biggs is said to appear in the 1840 Alabama census index, in Marshall County. Elias of Desoto Co may have had connections to Biggses in Madison Co AL and Shelby Co TN. Shelby Co borders Desoto Co MS. If probate records exist for the surname Biggs in Robeson Co NC in the early 1800's, they should be checked for mention of a Sarah Barlow. If Elias of Desoto Co MS is Sarah's father, perhaps his probate record will mention her. If the female under 10 in Elias' 1820 Robeson Co household is not your Sarah, then the other likely prospect is that she's the girl in James Biggs' household. A submission to Rootsweb's WorldConnect Project claims Elias is the son of Samuel Biggs. These Biggses are not in my direct line.
