    1. Absalom Biggs
    2. Steven, Patricia Campbell
    3. My name is Steve Campbell. I am working on my Biggs family genealogy. I am looking for any information on ABSALOM BIGGS, born May 21, 1766. He is listed on the 1790 census as living in Stephentown, NY. He had brothers,TIMOTHY BIGGS,(born March 13, 1749) and SMITH BIGGS and perhaps other siblings unknown. Absalom Biggs died in 1815 in I believe Warren, Herkimer Co, Ny. He served in the war of 1812 and served at Sackets Harbor where he contracted a disease and soon died after he returned home in 1815. Timothy married LUCY BAKER March 7, 1763. After his brother Timothy died, Absalom married Timothy's widow, LUCY BAKER-BIGGS in 1790. LUCY BAKER, was a sister of William Baker's father. William Baker married FILA the daughter of Dr. Rufus Crain. Madison Baker was also a brother of William Baker. Absalom lived in Warren, South Columbia area of Herkimer County, New York. Children of Absalom and Lucy Baker-Biggs: TIMOTHY, born April 10, 1791; LUCY, born February 22, 1794; and ABEL born February 12, 1796. ABEL BIGGS married RACHEL N. KEELER, born July 31, 1799, daughter of NATHANIEL KEELER and RHODA LAWRENCE. Children of ABEL and RACHEL BIGGS: ELMYRA, born July 16, 1816; ANSON M, born March 21, 1821; ALVIN, born May 26, 1825; CHESTER A, born February 21, 1833; and triplets,, DEWITT, DWIGHT and ABEL, born November 24, 1835. ANSON MARSHALL BIGGS married RACHEL BOWSER, 1853 in Dubuque, Iowa. Rachel Bowser was born in Pa. unknown where about 1825. They moved to Rockford, Iowa, by 1860. Rachel died in Rockford, 1892. I have lots of information on Anson and Rachel Biggs in Iowa. Still looking for information on Absalom and Abel Biggs from Warren area of Herkimer Co, NY. Any help greatly appreciated. Will pass on all other Biggs information I have! Thank You, Steve and Tricia Campbell

    2. I have a letter from my great grandfather stating that our William Biggs came to America as a British soldier; defected and stayed saying "by God this country is good enough for me". The letter continues saying that he lived on the Monocacy river in Frederick COunty, MD. There were lots of Biggs in that area but I can't connect to them. I have found him in Monongalia County, VA in 1773 through land grant and he died there in 1806. Hope this is helpful. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WCE.2ACIB/26.1.1 Message Board Post: Kerry, I am researching a Biggs also, a Robert Biggs. The local histories state that he was of Scotch-Irish descent. I have attempted, on the computer, to find out is the Biggs name was common to either area. But I found out very little. It seems that many Scots went to Ireland for political reasons. Therefore, I feel that maybe Biggs was a Scot name. All this is based on my historical info being correct. I do know that my Robert married a Jane (Ann) Miller who was supposedly born in Scotland; her parents were. My Robert's father may have been a John Biggs. I know nothing about his parents and siblings really. I was hoping that maybe I verify him as being born in an area where the name was not common; maybe it would be easier to research. He is first noted in Westmoreland County PA where there are others of Scottish origin.
