As of 1-Jan-03 Ancestry.com has expanded their reach by co-branding ALL of the Rootsweb Boards to 3rd party groups such as AOL, MSN & Lycos. What does this mean to us? The good part part is the the board coverage has been expanded x-fold to include new posters/potential leads (and maybe even a few relatives!). The down side? The bugs are not all worked out, such as The posts don't always appear, and the biggie - the board posts are coming thru the gateway to the emailed list with incomplete links back to the message board. And lastly, message posts from these 3rd parties are NOT being posted to the email version because you're not a member of the email list. So, the easy fix? Subscribe the the email list. That way, if/when you post the to message board it will also auto forward to the email version as well. To signup for the email version send a blank subscribe message to Bieber-L@rootsweb.com BTW - for those newer readers/members of this board. Ancestry/Rootsweb maintains two styles of these boards, the most popular is the email version, Which allows you to read the messages offline and/or on your own schedule. The other is here on the Message board. But you can only read/reply while online and you have to remember whats "old" and "new" postings. Hi, Received this from a Cruse cousin this morning. Referring to Volume XI, Rowan County Cemeteries, published recently by The Genealogical Society of Rowan County, in the Organ Cemetery lists, on page 5 is listed David Beaver, 6 August 1849 - 1 April 1917, husband of Sarah L. Cruse - son of Elias Beaver & Elenor "Nelly" Seamon and on page 6 is listed Sarah L. Cruse Beaver, 30 May 1851 - 11 August 1933, wife of David Veaver - "Of Such is the Kingdom of Heaven". If anyone is related to these two (they are my great grandparents), I have a scan of a commemorative I found among mother's things that shows their birth and death dates... Will be happy to share it with you. Jan --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Health - Feel better, live better
Hi, everyone! I have found some conflicting information on the burial site for my great grandparents. My notes say Organ Church. Others say Greenlawn in China Grove. Does anyone have access to any records of those interred at either or both cemeteries? ALL my mom's family is buried in Rowan County and I can't find lists anywhere online... And, I'm in Florida. I saw somewhere that someone has pics of the stones at Greenlawn... I'm specifically looking, this time, for where Sarah L. Cruse Beaver and David Beaver are buried. Sarah died Aug 11 1933 and David died Apr 1 1917. Their son, Jesse Leander Beaver, my grandfather, died Mar 9 1985 and is buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Concord, North Carolina. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated! Jan Robison Sanford, Florida --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Health - Feel better, live better
That's interesting - supposedly my mothers grandparents escaped ahead of the Jewish purge by the then czar (or whatever back then) My gf always said his dad was from Germany and his gm from Poland. But as far as I know both lines where Jewish. How did you trace thru Russia? And who is Dr Pleve? Something just occurred to me (duh!!) that some of our Bieber lines are are not Lutheran or Reformed Church. Not all of us came to America during the Palatine movement... Not all of us descend from Hans Dietrich Bieber. I think it would be a great idea if we shared our respective religious roots. None of my notes indicates a religious preference until a reference to the Organ Community, Rowan Co, North Carolina for Elias Beaver, descendant of Hans Dietrich. He was born in 1811. The Organ Church was Lutheran, and the church down the road, the Reform Church, was Lower Stone, built just 1 foot bigger that Zion (Organ)... very big conflict... A big part of our genealogical searches is religion. It might help many on the list to connect with ancestors if we posted our knowledge of reglious connections, connected to specific names and dates. We are ALL family, no matter what. I, for one, was baptized and confirmed Lutheran; but that doesn't mean all my ancestors were! Some may have "converted" from Judaism to survive the holocaust. And, others had enough "intestinal fortitude" ....
Hi everyone! Found this on the web just now. Has lots of info and names!! http://physics.bgsu.edu/~stoner/gen/beav.html North Carolina genealogist, Buford RIMMER in his "BEAVER Book," prepared for a 1998 BEAVER family reunion, says the BIEBERs were originally French Huguenots (protestants). He quotes a 1936 letter by a BEAVER descendant, which says: "The DeBEAUVIOR family is the Biber-BEAVER family in Germany. After the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, the Huguenots were forced to leave France and they went to Deux Pont, Alsace, where they took the German equivalent of their name." There is another family tradition, repeated by genealogist Margie von Marenholtz, that the BEAVERs were originally an English family, living in Germany, who emigrated to America because they wanted their children to live in an English-speaking environment. This tradition is somewhat suspect, since the BEAVERs, once in America decided to settle in German-speaking "Pennsylvania Dutch" communities in Pennsylvania. The earliest known records of Anna Barbara's BEAVER ancestors in America are in ship passenger lists, and the diaries of German Lutheran ministers in Berks and Lehigh Counties of Eastern PA. There the name is usually spelled Bieber or Biber, which is the German word for beaver (the animal), and is pronounced the same way. The English-speaking census takers and tax collectors of the Eighteenth usually spelled the name phonetically the way they heard it, and sometimes wrote Bever or Beever. Anna Barbara BEAVER and Michael MOCK were married in Rowan County, NC, in 1804. The marriage-bond document was signed on August 1, 1804, by Michael MOCK and Davolt BEAVER. Davolt BEAVER was Anna Barbara's brother-in-law, the husband of her older sister, Betsy BEAVER -- and most probably he was also a distant cousin. But the strong circumstantial evidence from census records of 1790 and 1800, and from family associations (described later on) are that her father was a Henry BEAVER, who was probably born in Lehigh County, PA, about 1752, and died in Hamilton County, IN, sometime in the 1830s. Although no record has been found of Henry BEAVER's birth or baptism, it is probable that his father was the Michael BIBER, who arrived in the port of Philadelphia 1751 on the ship Brothers. This Michael BEAVER was one of the founders of the Weisenberg Lutheran Church in Weisenberg Township, on the western edge of Lehigh County, PA. This church had no pastor for the first few years after its founding in 1751, and there were no records kept of births during that time. There is no proof that this Michael BEAVER was Henry's father, but he was the only known BEAVER of about the right age in the geographic vicinity of the place Henry was confirmed. --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GAE.2ACIB/103 Message Board Post: Hello list & board An interesting question was raised today in a private email and I wanted to re-post it here on both the Board and List to not only get some input but it might help some of use tie in (or untie) some family lines. The topic started in some private emails regarding the Beaver reunion (see other post). And I noticed that it will be located at a Church - Which raised red flags to me as I really haven't paid close detail on the religious following of what members I have encountered. You see, I'm from Chicago as is my father and his father and we're Jewish. My father's gf that I'm named after, was rumored to have either attended or graduated from a Rabbinical School - possibly in Chicago. Jan Robinson, who is a both a list & board member has done some extensive research on her Bieber side but so far has no history of Judaism. And on the surface see's no crossover to Judaism. Which brings me to my questions..... 1) How close does everyone track/trace/log religious beliefs & following of your ancestors? 2) Where/how do would we find this info - besides the obvious, like the cemeteries, certicates like moys or namings? 3) Has anyone actually documented where their lines switched faiths, such as Lutheran to Judaism, or whatever? 4) Has anyone else considered this before? Thanks! Skip Bieber Listadmin Boardadmin
