Surnames: Bidgood Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ClD.2ACEB/1.9.25 Message Board Post: Hi Don, I have been as busy as a bee trying to make sense of the pile of information that I have. My grandfather, James Edward Bidgood WAS born in Pennsylvania as was his wife Rachel Benson. They are listed on the 1910 miracode census for the State of Virginia and it indicates that their daughter Virginia Catherine, apparently born in PA, was with them. Virginia died sometime between 1910 and 1920 from a diptheria plague in Norfolk Virginia, which I have found occured in 1917, 1918 and 1919. You could have hit me with a baseball bat when it all fell into place by eliminating incorrect info. which was the birth certificate of my grandfather, James Edward, I think his birth was recorded in PA. and VA. I need to focus on Rachel, James Edward and Virginia. I'll get back to you sometime on this. If you have any interesting peices of the puzzle, please let me know. Thanks, Mary

    1. Re: Louisa Bidgood of England, Canada Detroit
    2. Hi, Louisa Bidgood of Lachine, Québec, was the sister of my greatgrandfather, Eli Bidgood. Eli was born in England in the 1860's and died in 1941; I am not sure where he is born, as he worked in service at large estates in England. My grandmother (born Winifred Bidgood, in 1891, in Derbyshire, England; died in Canada in 1984) mentioned the names "Kent" and "Exeter" to me as the possible birthplace of her father; I'm wondering if the birhplace could be the village of Kenton, near the city of Exeter, in Devonshire, England. There is a large estate owned by the Dukes of Devonshire in Kenton. Eli was one of (I believe) 13 brothers and sisters who were separated when their parents died. He emigrated to St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, about the time of World War I, only after his grown daughters had already emigrated. He later moved to Buffalo, New York (only a few miles away), where he worked for the Episcopal bishop of Buffalo. He spent much time writing letters to try to loca! te his siblings. Louisa was one of the ones he found; my mother happened to remember that fact when we drove near Lachine, Québec, recently. She remembers that Eli visited Louisa more than once. Eli also located a brother who had emigrated to Canada and had a farm near Renfrew, Ontario. I may be able to obtain more information from my mother (she is the daughter of Winifred Bidgood and Alexander Campbell)or from a first cousin. I was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, as was my mother, but live near Québec City. What is your relation to Louisa Bidgood? Did you know the story of the siblings being separated when still children? Thank you. Mary Claire Dugas
