    3. Hi Frank, Thank you for your Email. Not a great deal on the parents of Martha Bidgood. The only thing that might relate is that the Isle of Wight Co. VA Slave Schedule 1782 contains 10 BIDGOOD names including Martha Bidgood. No other information. Source [email protected] in 2001. I gather that slaves often took the surname of their owner, so it is possible that many of these named people were from the same estate. I do have a white Bidgood family who had slaves. Apparently slaves were encouraged to have children since these became the property of the owner. I do not think that marriage was a a pre-requisite or even common for the slaves. However this is outside my area of expertise so please try and confirm from other sources. It would be interesting to see if William and Martha show up on a census record as black. Hope this helps, and please keep me up dated if you find anything further. At present all I have on the family is the marriage, and the birth of the son John. 3. Hello, I have just recently found marriage entry in the Shelburne Vital Records for Lury Bidgood and Asa Smith for August 15, 1807, Shelburne, Chittenden, Vermont. Shelburne [VT] Town Clerk, _Town and Vital Records, 1787-1883_ (Salt Lake City : Filmed by the Genealogical Society of Utah, 19__, [Microfilm #0028869],Page: Item 1, p. 37. Since then I've looked for info on Lury's parents, Remington and Affa Humphrey/Humphries Bidgood and on her brothers Remington and Marcus Bidgood. Lots posted on the internet, but it mostly dead ends with Affa and with Remington's father John. Hope you kind folks can provide me with more details. I've tracked them from Vermont to Clinton County, New York on the 1850 census. Lury is living apart, with her two youngest sons and rather bluntly labeled 'insane' by the census. Asa is living nearby with Reuben W Smith, one of their sons and on the next census page, my great great grandfather Ira B Smith with his wife Rosella. On a page nearby my great great grandfather Royal Smith, age 16, is living with Remington Bidgood (Age 37) M432-489-89 1850 Clinton, Clinton, New York Line 35 Household #79 Family #81 Remington Bidgood 37 Male Farmer Vermont Mary F " 28 Female --- Canada James H " 5 Male --- New York John DeW " 3 Male --- New York Royal Smith 16 Male Laborer New York This enumeration is dated October 28, 1850 I would love to hear from others researching the Remington descendants (And ancestors) Ellan Seattle

I found one reference in the Hopkinton Town Meeting minutes from the 1760s where John Bitgood, a tranchon person, applied to live in Hopkintown, and in his testimony, he claimed to have been born in the house of John Holloway in Charlestown. The Hopkintown town fathers voted not to admit him to live in Hopkintown. Have you investigated John Holloway from Charlestown? Kindest regards, Bill Bidgood
