My grandfather, Alexander Albert Bibby (born around 1900) lived in Liverpool, UK before emigrating to US where he lived in Sayreville, NJ and then Cranford, NJ. He married my grandmother, Marie Schau in New Jersey and raised 4 children with Marie: William Bibby, Alexander Albert Bibby, Jr (my father) and Dorothy Bibby and Elizabeth (BETTY). My grandfather owned a restaurant (Bibby's Coach and Four, in Cranford, NJ and Coach and Hourses, in Elizabeth, NJ). He had 8 or 9 siblings, one of them being Christieny Bibby and another being Alfred. I'm trying to find information about my grandfather and siblings. I know one of his siblings emigrated to Ontario, Canada. My grandfather worked on a ship at the age of 13 but I don't know the name of the shipping company. An additional bit of information. I'm pretty sure my grandfathers parents were: Alexander Bibby and Christieny Roger Richards. His grandparents were: Alexander Bibby and Sophia Sherlock. This is yet to be confirmed. Any! and all information is gratefully accepted!
My great grandfather was Edward Henry Bibby. He was one of 10 children born to Richard George Bibby and caroline Bibby(nee Swinden. One of those children was an Alexander Bibby(Edward's brother. I know that Alexander was born in 1850 as he appears on the 1851 census aged 11 months. Although I do not have a date for the wedding I know that Alexander married Sophia Jane Sherlock(she was born in 1853. Their frist child, Richard Alfred Bibby was christened on the 12th May, 1873 at Liverpool, St. Peter. On the 12th December, 1880 Alexander, Caroline and Sophia Bibby were christened at St. John the baptist. They were living at Steble Grove at the time. The census for 1881 for 10 Steble Grove gives the following details: Alexander Bibby, age 31, head, cab owner Sophia J. Bibby, age 29, wife Richard A. Bibby, son, age 8 Alexander Bibby, son, age 6 Caroline Bibby, daughter, age 4 Sophia Bibby, daughter , age 2 Thomas Sherlock, father in law, age 68, book keeper Alexander Sherlock, son age 24, bootmaker They were all born in Liverpool On the 8th October, 1882 Edith Bibby was christened at St. John the baptist. Does any of the above help you to confirm that this is your family? If it is I would be grateful for any info you have relating to them in England and after they emigrated. If you are sure that we share the same family background I have traced my branch back to Wales in 1753.
