I have a John Gorstage Bibby born 1894 in Liverpool. Would you be a descendent of his then? It appears that his father was John Gorsuch Bibby and his grandmother was Ellen Gorsuch. So it looks like there is a name corruption somewhere. Also the Gorsuch or Gostage came from the maternal side so it will have nothing to do with whether Bibbys were of Viking descent. However, there are many surnames which appear to be of Viking descent, for example, Alker, Balshaw, Bilsborrow, Brown, Carr, Charnock, Coly, Cook, Cooper, Corfe, Cruumbleholm, Fletcher, Gray, Gill, Hesketh, Hulme, Holland, Homes, Jones (son), Leyland, Melling, Molyneux, Lunt, Otty, Pembleton, Penketh, Pennington, Prescott, Rigby, Risley, Rimmer, Roby, Scarisbrick, Sephton, Serjent, Swarbrick, Thomasson, Walsh, Webster, Westhead. It could be that Gostage is another one. I have this Bibby family going back to 1807. Contact me again and we can compare notes.
