    3. It is with great sadness that I must let you know of the death of my uncle Geoffrey Bibby. He passed away on February 6th at his home in Denmark, at the age of 83. Professionally Geoffrey became an eminent archaeologist. His work involved many years of excavations around the Persian Gulf, where he became a personal friend of the Emir of Bahrain. Geoffrey was one of the first to popularise the subject of archaeology. He wrote the books “The Testimony of the Spade” and “Four Thousand Years Ago”, and appeared on popular TV programs such as the BBC’s “Chronicle”. In his retirement he was deeply involved in the many re-enactments of Viking life in Denmark and around the world. Geoffrey spent many years researching the Bibby family history in archives and graveyards. This was of course difficult since for the last 50 years he was living in Denmark. He had only recently started using the Internet for family research, but even in that time he made contact with many of you in this group. Overall his was a rich and fulfilling life. He will be greatly missed. John Bibby
