Hi Steve, Who is researching the subject of your message? I did not see the original. My Great great grandfather was Richard George Bibby. He married Caroline Swinden at Walton on the Hill in 1838. Their children were Louisa 1839; Christopher 1840; Caroline 1843; Isabella 1845; Richard G 1847; William 1849; ALEXANDER 1850; Edward H(My great grandfather) 1852; Susannah 1854; Caroline 1857. I have traced my Bibby family back to Flint in North Wales in the mid 1700's. Is this the same family you are researching? Alexander married Sophia Jane Sherlock(born 1853) on 10 September 1871, at St. Nicholas, Liverpool, ref: 8b 209. Alexander appears on the 1881 census at 10 Steble Grove as follows; Alexander Bibby, age 31, head, Cab owner. Sophia J. Bibby, age 29, wife. Richard A. Bibby, son, age 8. Alexander Bibby, son, age 6. Caroline Bibby, daughter, age 4. Sophia Bibby, daughter, age 2. Thomas Sherlock, father-in-law, age 68, bookkeeper. Alexander Sherlock, son, age 24, bootmaker. (all born in Liverpool). I believe that Alexander, a car driver, died, age 47, in 1898, and was buried in Toxteth Park cemetery. In the same grave are another Alexander Bibby, a warehouseman, aged 40, died 1915; also, Sophia Jane Bibby, age 80, died 1933, Birkenhead. Best regards Steve Brereton Toxteth Park Cemetery: Section 1(C of E), No. 307: 03.02.1898 (81372) Alexander Bibby, age 47, Car Driver, 2 Hodges Mount. 26.06.1901 (87679) Oliver George Jackson, 10 months, 72 North Hill St. 20.06.1915(109332) Alexander Bibby, age 40, Warehouseman, 38 Powes St. (114319) Richard Arthur Sherlock, age 66, Ships Steward, 86 Gwendoline St. 06.02.1933(121604) Sophia Jane Bibby, age 80, 138 Laird St. Birkenhead. -----Original Message----- From: stevebibby@onetel.net.uk [mailto:stevebibby@onetel.net.uk] Sent: 25 November 2003 17:59 To: BIBBY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [Bibby] Re: Ancestors of Alexander A Bibby from Liverpool This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I then did a search of all Bibbys in Toxteth Park and I assume found his brother Alfred born 1896. His sister Christieny was not there so I assume she was born after the census. His mother was down as Christiana b 1875 in Bristol and his father appears to be a Cotton Warehouse Porter b 1874 in Liverpool. By the way, his parents were married in the 4th qtr of 1895 at Toxteth Park. His grandfather Alexander was not there - Can I assume that he had died by 1901? His grandmother Sophia Jane was there in Toxteth and so was his uncle, Richard Alfred b1873, a Wholesale Drapers Salesman. I assume his two aunts Caroline and Sophia were married by 1901. His grandparents were married in the 3rd qtr of 1871 at Liverpool St Nicholas. Can you confirm or deny any of this and have you any more detail for me? Hello All, Karen has a good idea, for all of us to say what Bibby lines we are researching. Mine is the family that originated in Over Wyresdale, near Lancaster, England, in 1630. For the next 200 years or so they stayed around the Lancaster area, and then branches out, first to Preston, then Liverpool and other places in Lancashire, later to the wider world. I know of branches in Canada (Saskatchewan and western Ontario), USA (West Virginia and possibly Wisconsin), New Zealand and Australia. As far as I know this is a completely separate family from Norman's Cumberland family that I come across quite often. Also I don't believe there is any connection with the many Bibby families that originated in the villages around Wigan. I would be interested to hear from anyone who believes they are connected to the Wyresdale Bibbys, or who is interested in the Bibby families generally.
