Mike Wells -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- East Ilsley Local History Society invites you to their Genealogy Day on Saturday 10^th October 2009 from 10am until 4pm at The Ilsleys School, East Ilsley. There will be an exhibition featuring the results of recent research entitled ‘Wills and Wells’.

Hi Mike, It is the bits of paper and the holes in the ground types of wills and wells. Current work by one member is being undertaken to locate the sites of all the wells in the village. Approximately 40 have been located so far A total of 190 wills have now been identified and transcribed, including many that pre-date the beginning of parish registers. A list of some of the names covered in these wills (including Wells!) can be found on the website here http://www.east.ilsley.btinternet.co.uk/wills.htm Another member has also researched the names on the war memorial, this work will be available to view on the day.
