    3. Hello Valma Further to Peter's message, maybe Charles/they migrated to London England on the way to Australia. There are banns for a couple Charles HAWKINS and Ann LEES at St Mary Islington London on 7, 14 and 21 September 1856. Following that there is a note of the date Sept 22 1856. From others on the page, this is the date on which a certificate for the banns was issued, but it might also have been the date of marriage as well. Unfortunately, I have not yet found/doesn't appear to be the actual parish record of the marriage itself, which would have contained their fathers' names and occupations as well. Free BMD have a reference to this couple's marriage. The reference is 3rd quarter/September quarter 1856 registration district Islington 1b 354. So Reference 3Q 1856 Islington 1b 354. If this is the appropriate marriage for your couple, it should similarly give both fathers' names and occupation, helping to home in on the family in the census records. If all this is fairly new to you, you might find it worth reading around the internet to find out more about the sources available to us family historians, on and offline. Maybe others on the list have a handy list of links or a good site to start on.
