What's a recusant? The term derives from the Latin recusare< /em>, meaning to refuse. In English history it means someone who refused to attend Church of England services, usually a Roman Catholic. For almost 300 years English Catholics were deprived of many civil rights. There were railways in England by the time Catholics achieved emancipation. Monthly meetings are held at Long Furlong Community Centre, Boulter Drive Abingdon at 7.15pm for 7.30pm start. Where there is ample free parking. Everyone welcome. Sue Matthews Chairman/ Programme Secretary Vale of the White Horse Branch Berkshire Family History Society
Dear Sue How I would love to be there for the November 15th meeting to hear and ask questions of Tony Hadland. My Little family is from the Berkshire area and were Roman Catholic. I have been most fortunate to meet Howard Fuller who has been invaluable in my research and have had information provided by Tony Hadland as well. Is there anyway Tony's presentation could be made available to those of us in other countries?
