    3. Jonathan, post-1838 wills can be ordered from http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/1183.htm It may also be useful to look here about probate in general: file:///D:/GenUKI/BRK/index.html#Probate Robert Monk On 09/12/2010 17:35, jgentry@bell.net wrote: > > Hi list members, > > My ancestor William GENTRY died in Abingdon in 1855. > > Can anyone please check if he left a Will ? > > TIA > Jonathan in Toronto, Canada. > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to BERKSHIRE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > ----- > No virus found in this message. > Checked by AVG - www.avg.com > Version: 10.0.1170 / Virus Database: 426/3304 - Release Date: 12/08/10 > >

    3. Hi Robert Post *1858* wills can be ordered from hmcourt-service Before that probate was dealt with by the Ecclesiastical courts so could be in one of a number of places depending upon where it was proved (if there was one of course) The link you posted would appear to be pointing to your hard drive? Genuki has this on probate http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Probate.html And for Berkshire http://www.berkshirerecordoffice.org.uk/familyhistory/sources.htm There are a number of informative research guides on the National Archives amongst them this one <http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/research-guides/wills-and-probate-records.htm> Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Jonathan, post-1838 wills can be ordered from > http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/1183.htm > > It may also be useful to look here about probate in general: > file:///D:/GenUKI/BRK/index.html#Probate > > Robert Monk > > On 09/12/2010 17:35, jgentry@bell.net wrote: >> >> Hi list members, >> >> My ancestor William GENTRY died in Abingdon in 1855. >> >> Can anyone please check if he left a Will ? >> >> TIA >> Jonathan in Toronto, Canada.

    3. Nivard, you are correct. I will shortly correct the Genuki page to change 1838 to 1858. Thank you. Jonathan, read Nivard's advice, not mine! 2. Hi Robert and Nivard, Thanks to you both for your input. Earlier when I had written : " My ancestor William GENTRY died in Abingdon in 1855. Can anyone please check if he left a Will ? " it was my hope that a list member had, or had easy access to, a Probate Index that included the Parish of St. Helen, Abingdon. I had half expected to be referred to the Oxfordshire list :) More questions to follow. Cheers Jonathan in a cool Toronto, Canada
