    1. [BRK] William Samuel SMITH - 1825

    3. Hi listers, I'd love to hear from anyone connected to the family of William Samuel SMITH. According to the 1881 Census, he was born about 1825 at Greenham. He is recorded as a "farmer of 164 acres employing 3 men," and is living at Mayford Wells, Woking. He is also recorded as "married" and although I have his wife Eliza in previous and later censuses, she is not with him in 1881. So far I've had little joy in finding out where she'd bunked off to. <G> She is also proving hard to find in the 1841 census where she is 13 years old. I do know though that she is not with her parents, Edward & Eliza. William Samuel SMITH and Eliza NIXEY were married in the Southampton area in early 1847, and their children were born in various areas of Southern England, including Binfield, Berkshire; Hannington, Hampshire; and Slough, buckinghamshire. Eliza was the niece of my 2 x great grandfather, Joseph NIXEY. Kindest regards to all, Jon

    3. Update on the 1881 Census ..... Eliza has now been found. No birthplace was entered for Eliza SMITH, and if I'd bothered to trace her children one by one, I'd have found her quite easily with her son, Frank N. Smith and his wife Alice at 1 Alpha Cott, Hornsey, Middlesex. So now it's just the 1841 census to pin down. Regards to all, Jon
