    3. Dear Listers I am trying to decipher a town name from an 1861 and an 1871 census page. The town is in Berkshire and looks like Burville or Burvel. Google maps does not recognise it. The town was someone's birth place and it states it is in Berkshire. Would anyone know of such a town in the period please? With thanks, Margaret

    3. Hello Margret, There seems to be only two people who have that as a birth location in the census. One of them is Annie wife of Joseph Tyler who may give a clue, as in census 1901 this time, she is listed as Reading. The Berkshire accent would have been quite strong at that time, so two possibilities are Burghfield to the South West of Reading or Charvill between Reading and Twyford on the A4.
