    3. Hello Margaret Thanks for your response to my query. Our line has no connection with Swindon or Wiltshire that I'm aware of but they seem to be widespread from Berkshire to London (Lambeth), Birmingham and Dublin and various places overseas. Although the name Skeate has been given as a second name for generations in our line I haven't yet found the original White/Skeate connection which I think is pre-1750 at least and possibly much older. My family came from around Alton in Hampshire and moved to London - Wandsworth and Lambeth. However as far as I know there are no Whites in the family. I have located early variations of the name in both Hampshre and Cumbria. Good luck & I would be interested to know if you find any connections with my family. Edward Skeate WHITE was a brother of my great-grandfather, John William White. Their father was Richard WHITE born c1796 in Reading who married Mary Ann CUTTER on 21 November 1822 at St Giles, Reading. They later moved to Lambeth Surrey where all their children were born. But there were earlier family members called Edward Skeate WHITE one of whom was a mayor of Reading in 1777. 'Esther HATTON married one Edward Skeate WHITE the younger of Reading. In 1777, one Edward Skeate WHITE was Mayor of Reading.' I am trying to join the dots between Richard and earlier generations of Whites. So far I've been unable to find parish records relating to this family and I'd be grateful for any relavant information.
