    3. Dear Listers I wrote to the Berkshire County Office re the derivation/existence of Burville in Berkshire and received the following very prompt reply: Ref: GG/E10N Dear Ms Nichols, Thank you for your enquiry. I have not been able to find that any place called Burville has ever existed in Berkshire. My guess would be that the person concerned was born in Burghfield, which is a village just to the south-west of Reading. The enumerators wrote down people's replies to the census questions, so unfamiliar names where sometimes misheard and recorded wrongly. I hope this is helpful. Yours sincerely, Gill Gough Archives Assistant Berkshire Record Office 9 Coley Avenue Reading Berkshire RG1 6AF Tel: 0118 9015132 www.berkshirerecordoffice.org.uk Well done to the folk who figured it out and let me know! Thank you for your replies and interest. 3. Have you considered Turville in Buckinghamshire, the adjoining county? Many parts of Berkshire were in Bucks although I don't think this applies to Turville. 3. If, as many have suggested, the place of birth is Burghfield & he was baprised there, you may be interested to know that BerksFHS have transcribed the Parish Registers of Burghfield and made them available on CD.
