    3. Examining the Binfield 1801 census leaves me no closer to finding the parents of Richard CARTER, father of my 3xgreat-grandfather, thatcher/ag lab William CARTER, chr 20 Mar 1785 in Waltham St Lawrence (birthplace confirmed in census information).   There are three CARTER families in the 1801 Binfield census: Robert CARTER and Ann Dickenson and family, his son James and family - and Richard CARTER and family.  He could be the son of Robert CARTER, chr in Binfield on 28 Jun 1758, but also might not be judging from what's (not) written there.   Richard CARTER and wife Susannah's children were christened in Waltham St Lawrence between 1776 and 1798 according to IGI.  This seems like a long date range for one mother, but almost all of the childrens' names from Betty c1776 to James c1798 are listed with them in the 1801 census.    Unusually for this 1801 census, Susannah's maiden name is not given, rather implying they may have got married outside that parish.   I wonder whether anyone with access to the Waltham St Lawrence PRs could take a look for any Richard CARTER marriage and at the christenings of his children to see whether there's any helpful information on which parish he was from, etc that might throw any light on all this.  I'd be extremely grateful!   (I'd be very happy to look for more names in the Binfield 1801 census if anyone is interested, by the way.)   Therese.
