12 February 1800: A youth named John Hutt of Bray, Nr. Maidenhead, went to the neighbouring village of Touchen End. He broke into Touchen End bakery which was owned by Thomas Pearman and his wife Anne. When Anne disturbed John, he hit her over the head with something heavy, breaking her skull and killing her. He was hung at Reading Jail on Thursday 6 March and his body publicly dismembered at Reading Town Hall. www.royalmaidenhead.co.uk
