    3. Does anyone on the List know if there are any records of the inmates of the Windsor Union Workhouse held anywhere other than the Berkshire Record Office? My wife's gg grandfather James COX b. c1811/13, spent the last 20 years of his life there from approximately 1883, after his wife Ann died, to sometime between 1901 and 1911. I have him there in the 1891 and 1901 Census and I am reliably told he is not there in 1911. I am unable to find a death for him in the FreeBMD so my next step is to try and access the Workhouse records to see when he died. There appears to be a problem with this as the records held by the Berkshire Record Office only cover the Inmates death records from, (1835-48, 1867-88, 1908-32). It would appear that the essential years I want are not fully recorded. Can anyone help or have any suggestions? Colin.

    3. Colin http://www.workhouses.org.uk/ has quite a lot about Windsor Union Workhouse, with photos and press reports. Berks RO seems to have some other documents which might be useful, such as a relatives list. Follow 'Workhouse locations' then 'English Poor Law Unions' then 'Berkshire'.
