Hi Jan, Thank you for reminding me of that, I had forgotten (slaps wrist)! Do you know who fills out the Census when they are in the Workhouse? His age has varied each year. In the 1841 Census he said his age was 30 giving him a birth year of 1811, his wife Ann said she was 25 giving her a birth year of 1816. Their first child was born in 1833 which woud mean a marriage at age 15 or so. Maybe age 25 was a misheard 29 which would fit with the ages given in the following census. 1851 James 38 Ann 37 1861 James 48 Ann 47 1871 James 58 Ann 57 1881 James 68 Ann 67 Ann died in 1883 age 70 which fits with the Census age. James in the 1891 Census is in the Windsor Union Workhouse and his age is unreadable, there are two lines through and I cannot even guess what it is, it should read 78. 1901 James is 80 and that should read 88. Another person on this List had a look at the 1911 Census and could not find James in the Workhouse, so the presumption is he died some time between 1901 and 1911. So........as you say the years are way out and if it was my James his age would really be 90. As I understand things, there are still some pages that have not been transcribed by FreeBMD, So I might wait a while and see what turns up before applying for a death certificate. I will apply for the certificate for Ann though.
