Hi, I am seeking information on Henry Watts and his family. Henry was born in Berkshire in 1841, married Eliza Burbidge in 1859 and migrated to Australia in 1870. Henry was a bricklayer by trade. I have found him in the 1861 census living in Camberwell and his birthplace is listed, however I cannot read the entry for the town. Henry's death certificate lists his father as Richard Watts, bricklayer and his mother Elizabeth Robins. The 1851 census shows Richard living in Inkpen, Berkshire with family including wife Martha and Henry, aged 10. This could be the correct Henry, however the mother doesn't fit. If anyone has any information on this family, it will be greatly appreciated. Regards, Steve, Sydney Aust.
Steve On the 1851 he is home with his parents at Great Common Inkpen and his birthplace is given as Inkpen. In 1841 the Richard entry has Martha as his wife and Henry aged 6 months. The 1861 entry at Camberwell has a birthplace that is almost impossible to read, nearest I can some is Speen. However his parents are also living in Camberwell, again Richard and Martha - in Acorn Street,. Richard's baptism is on www.familysearch.org for 1810 - if you put C23371 into the batch number box you will get all the Inkpen baptisms. They also have what looks like his marriage to Martha ROBINS at Kintbury in 1834, perhaps Henry was not sure of his mother's first name? On the 1861 census Martha's birthplace is West Woody (probably West Woodhay which is part of Kintbury) In fact West Woodhay, Speen and Inkpen are all within the 'hundred of Kintbury Eagle'. Check out the Berkshire pages on www.genuki.org for more information Wendy -----Original Message----- From: Steve McTaggart Sent: Wednesday, August 24, 2011 9:13 AM To: BERKSHIRE@rootsweb.com Subject: [BRK] Watts family of Berkshire.
