Hello everyone! My first posting with Berkshire...! I am not sure if anyone can help on two fronts............ ?? Ernest Cope was in Stoke Newington, London in the 1901 Census. I cannot locate him in any subsequent Census, sadly ..... BUT there is an Ernest Cope who died in Reading in 1927. I think this is my Ernest, as his brother Robert, who also lived in Reading (all the dates match) died the same year in Dunedin Hospital, Bath Street............... can anyone confirm Ernest’s presence in Reading for me, please? And perhaps any reference to his brother’s circumstances etc in Dunedin? A vigilant person on the Oxfordshire site (I am a member of OFHS) found a mention somewhere that Ernest died from Victoria Road (I can’t find that ref and hate to ask) ....... The other matter is Ernest left a will (Ancestry) – where do I go to secure a copy of that, please....? Thank you .................. James Queensland.

Dear Nivard Well - I have to say that is a marvellous response, so quickly. All very helpful and thanks so very much. The age fits nicely. I am at a loss as to the period between 1901 (aged 30 and a lodger in Stoke Newington) and 1927. When, do you think, did he arrive in Reading? Does the address of Bath Road suggest he died in Dunedin Hospital ( as did his brother Robert?)? I have applied for his death certificate and hopefully he is linked with the Copes of Wallingford. It will be interesting to learn who were the main beneficiaries of his estate. Thank you, once more. James Queensland. -----Original Message----- From: Nivard Ovington Sent: Monday, August 22, 2011 6:14 PM To: berkshire@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BRK] Ernest Cope- Reading Hi James Deaths from 1866 have the age at death (as reported) in the index Which shows this Ernest was 56 years of age Name: Ernest Cope Birth Date: abt 1871 Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1927 Age at Death: 56 Registration district: Reading Inferred County: Berkshire Volume: 2c Page: 597 The Probate entry shows the address you mention Probate Calendars 1927 COPE Ernest of 24 Victoria road Tielhurst Reading died 25 March 1927 at 37 Bath road Reading Probate London 1 June to Barclays Bank limited Effects £5,472 18s 1d You do not say his age in 1901 so unsure if this matches your data Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hello everyone! > > My first posting with Berkshire...! > > I am not sure if anyone can help on two fronts............ ?? > > Ernest Cope was in Stoke Newington, London in the 1901 Census.
