These petitions are purely there to stop people trying to deliver handwritten petitions to 10 Downing Street. The epetition with the most signatories (approx 3 million) was signed by less than 10% of the electorate. A number of people that is easy to ignore as a minority, and therefore, insignificant. In any event, no petition ever forced govt to alter legislation in the UK. -- Regards _ / ) "The blindingly obvious is / _)rad never immediately apparent" Buy some love at the five and dime You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart - Eurythmics

    3. You may not be aware but the GRO are currently engaged in a review and are considering an assortment of options for future supply and pricing of certificates. As I understand it, they claim that the existing legislation does not allow them to send certificates by e-mail but they would have no objection to using e-mail if allowed. I can't believe that the petition will achieve anything of itself, but it might just add to the weight of opinion that's already been canvassed from GRO users. That said, one would hope that the GRO might also come up with a revised system by themselves some time before the closing date for the petition - 12/8/2012 !
