Hi everyone, With the relatively new style familysearch.org website up and running, I thought I'd try and locate some info on my 4xGreat Grandmother's family. Elizabeth married my 4xGreat Grandfather, John NIXEY at Upton cum Chalvey in 1765. All indexes I've been able to find have her surname as HESSEY, and one transcription of the entry notes that she signed her name HISSEY. There aren't any entries on familysearch for HESSEY that come close to being the right person, but there is an Elizabeth HISSEY bapt at Peasemore, Berkshire, on April 11,1742, the daughter of Henry and Ann. Elizabeth NIXEY died at Upton cum Chalvey in 1813 aged 73, giving an approx year of birth of 1740. This is the closest I've come to so far. Are there any HISSEY / HESSEY researchers out there who know more about this family's movements please? My own NIXEY family have done a fair bit of jumping back and fore between Buckinghamshire and Berkshire, including the above mentioned John who was apprenticed for 7 years to a Wheelwright named William COX of Brightwell, Berkshire in 1754. If he completed those 7 years, that could put him in the Brightwell area until 1761, only a few years before he and Elizabeth were married. Being totally blind, I'm unable to view online maps of Berkshire. Could SKS please give me an idea of how far Brightwell and Peasemore were from each other? With many thanks in advance for any hints, clues, suggestions and help, best wishes to all, Jon
Hi Jon, Sorry this is late. I have just come across your request. There were some HISSEY families here in my village for many years and this lady has researched the family well. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~amandataylor/pafg15.htm Just looked at the Berkshire Archdeaconry Probate Records 1480-1652 there are HISSEY but no NIXEY families.
