Hi Jon, I don't know if you already know of this but on GenUKI you can find out how far 2 places are from each other without using a map. Go to http://www.genuki.org.uk/cgi-bin/gaz and type in the name of one place ie Brightwell. A number of results come up including Brightwell, Berks. Click on the Gazetteer place entry (not the GenUKI parish name) and you are taken to a page with a map and other links. Right at the bottom of this page there is this statement: "You can also ask for a calculation of the distance from Brightwell to another place." Clicking on this takes you to a page where you can input a second place ie. Peasemore, and the result is: "Peasemore, Berkshire [SU461774] is 10.8 miles (17.4 Km) SW of Brightwell, Berkshire [SU575905]. This is measured directly between the two points 'as the crow flies' ignoring any geographical features such as rivers or hills.
