    3. Dear Nivard Where did Ernest Cope get all that money .....? Mystery solved..... Ernest's death certificate records his occupation, not as a cabinet maker that we already knew when he boarded in London as a 30 year old but at his death he was - a farmer. Obviously, it still begs the question where did he get the funds to finance such an undertaking - he died 56 years of age -just 26 years later. Living at 24 Victoria Road, Tilehurst, in the middle of Reading, he must have sold up - made a nice return it seems given the value of his will in todays currency (200,000 approx pounds). Is there any way we can locate records which might confirm where in fact he farmed and when he sold and for how much? Regards James Queensland. -----Original Message----- From: Nivard Ovington Sent: Wednesday, August 24, 2011 12:45 AM To: berkshire@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BRK] Ernest Cope- Reading You are most welcome As and when you get the will or wills do let us know the outcome Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Thanks, Nivard. > > Once more, I am very grateful for all you have written which I find very > interesting and I now understand much more clearly the matter of land > ownership/renting as you outlined for me. > > Thanks also for sharing the correction to the name and you intention to > make > the correction in the index - > > So, we are back with the irritating question where did Ernest get that > money?? - I think almost 200,000 pounds at todays value!
