Hello. My GG Grandfather Thomas BICKERDIKE was born, according to his tombstone, on 18 Jan 1816 in York, England. However an article about his son Robert who was a Canadian Member of Parliament states that Thomas was born in Berkshire. He emigrated to Canada in the 1820s and was living in Kingston, Upper Canada (now the province of Ontario) when he married Agnes COWAN on the 31 Oct 1842. They had a son Robert on the 17 Aug 1843 in Kingston and then they moved to Lower Canada (now the province of Quebec.) I have details on all their children, etc but cannot find any information that would give me Thomas' parent's names. Unfortunately few passenger lists have survived from that era. I cannot locate any record of him in York and I am at a loss to know how to trace his birth/christening record. (He was Protestant.) Any suggestions you may have would be most welcome. Thank you.
