    3. Joy, I assume that you have found the family on the census? I found the family in 1851 at Shaw cum Donnington. Berkshire Record Office Shaw Cum Donnington Parish Records D/P 106 Have you tried Family Search - http://www.familysearch.org/ Caleb Cook England and Wales Census, 1881 birth: 1842 - North Heath, Berkshire, England residence: Leigh, Kent, England spouse: Emma J. Cook It may be worth hunting for him there - also try the IGI http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_I GI.asp&clear_form=true and Hugh Wallis website http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers .htm Free BMD has his birth: Name: Caleb Cook Birth: Oct 1841 - Newbury, Berkshire, Hampshire Shaw cum Donnington is very close to Newbury Free BMD Levi Cook Estimated birth year: abt 1838 Year of Registration: 1915 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec Age at Death: 77 District: Reading (1837-1974) County: Berkshire Volume: 2c Page: 461 (click to see others on page) Best wishes, Jill http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~glamorgan/ ~ Glamorgan Mailing List's own website http://gravematters.org.uk ~Transcribing Monumental Inscriptions -----Original Message----- From: berkshire-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:berkshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Joy Sent: Tuesday, January 18, 2011 1:36 AM To: berkshire@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BRK] COOKS IN SHAW CUM DONNINGTON Hello Iam trying to find christenings and marriages in Shaw cum Donnington that are held in the Berkshire Record Office. D/P 106 (Which I assume is the catalogue number). They hold registers of Baptisms 1846-1981 and marriages 1846-1985. I am after details of the COOK family.First child is Caleb, born approx 1835 and the last child appears to be Jessie b1847. There should also be a Levi born about 1850. The LDS film only goes up to 1837.What I want to confirm is that I have the correct family. Father could William. If anyone could look that up for me I would be most grateful, as it's a bit far from Australia. Thanks in anticipation Joy Light ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to BERKSHIRE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. North Heath is/was in Chieveley parish, I think within the chapelry of Winterbourne ( according to http://www.berksfhs.org.uk/cms/Berkshire-Places/winterbourne.html ) This is a few miles north of Donnington and Shaw. See also http://www.berksfhs.org.uk/cms/Berkshire-Places/chieveley.html There are at least two COOK families in North Heath in 1841 census with children: Henry and Lucy with children Thomas, Mary, Elizabeth and William and Joseph and Mary with children Emily, Frederick, and John In nearby Shaw in 1841 were William (44) and Lucy (27) Cook with children Ellen 12, Caleb 9 Harriott 8 Caroline 6 Mary Ann 4 and Elizabeth 2 I suspect that Lucy may have been William's second wife, given the age of the eldest child. 3. Jill and Jeff Thanks for the information, I have found the 1851 Census information. I tried both the IGI and Hugh Wallis Batch sites but nothing definite on the fathers marriage. Also the baptisms dont cover the years I am after on the LDS Site. So thanks again anyway. Regards Joy
