>From Jackson's Oxford Journal, Saturday, June 17, 1871; Issue 6168. READING. DEATH FROM SUFFOCATION. - On Tuesday a man named John TEGG was suffocated at the Bull Inn, Broad-street, from having attempted to swallow a large piece of beef steak he was eating. At an inquest on Wednesday a verdict of "Died from suffocation" was returned. ST. GILES'S CHURCH. - On Monday last the work of restoring and enlarging this ugly building was commenced by Messrs. WHEELER BROTHERS , builders. The church will be considerably improved in shape: the old chancel will be superseded by a transept, and a new chancel built farther eastward; the Church will thus be cruciform in shape. The tower and spire with the present walls of the nave will be retained. Jill I found the following on 1911 census at Cambridge recruiting barracks, Frances Street Woolwich DREWITT, Henry John Single 42 1869 Wilts Westbury Edington Private 6th Bn Rifle B06 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RG number: RG14 Piece: 2881 Reference: RG14PN2881 RD30 SD2 ED27 SN1 Registration District: Woolwich Sub District: Woolwich Enumeration District: 27 Parish: Woolwich Address: Frances Street Woolwich County: London There are two more Henry John Drewitts in the census: one born 1900 Coventry and the other born 1863 a schoolmaster working for Worcester County Council which would make him too old. There are also another 5 or six Henry Drewitts who would have been of an age to fight in WW1 Wendy -----Original Message----- From: Jill Muir Sent: Tuesday, January 25, 2011 5:25 PM To: berkshire@rootsweb.com Subject: [BRK] DREWITT, Henry John. Hello Jill According to the British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index , Pte Henry J DREWITT of the 3rd London Regiment was the recipient of 2 medals: the Victory and the British War Medal. Let me know if you would like me to send you the image of his medal card. Have you looked for him in the 1901 Census? Hello again, Jill I think I may have found him. Ancestry.com has transcribed a publication called UK Soldiers died in the Great War, 1914 - 1919. It includes Henry John DREWITT of the 3rd Bn London Regiment, 254877, who was killed in action on 26 August 1918 in France. His 'residence' is given as Holloway. The 1911 Census has a family headed by Henry Valentine DREWITT, 37, a Telegraph Instrument Maker, born Hackney Wick, Middlesex. His wife was, Emma, 39, born Bethnal Green. They had been married for 12 years and had two children: Henry John DREWITT, 11, born Coventry, Warwickshire and Lily Violet, 6, born in West Ham. Their address was: 20 Harvist (sic) Road, Holloway, Islington, London. I don't know where the link to Bagpuize comes in. The Index to War Deaths has a reference number of I83264 (first digit is a capital 'i') for Henry John Drewitt - presumably you can order the certificate from Southport Wendy -----Original Message----- From: Nivard Ovington Sent: Wednesday, January 26, 2011 12:13 AM To: berkshire@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BRK] DREWITT, Henry John.
