    3. Jill The father of Henry Valentine DREWITT i.e Henry John's grandfather was Henry T DREWITT, a printer born in Westminster, Middlesex abt 1846. Henry T DREWITTs wife was an Eliza born in Everham?, Berkshire abt 1847 (according to 1871 Census), or Reading, Berkshire according to 1891 Census. Perhaps she provided the link to Bagpuize. 3. Hello again, Jill I think I may have found him. Ancestry.com has transcribed a publication called UK Soldiers died in the Great War, 1914 - 1919. It includes Henry John DREWITT of the 3rd Bn London Regiment, 254877, who was killed in action on 26 August 1918 in France. His 'residence' is given as Holloway. The 1911 Census has a family headed by Henry Valentine DREWITT, 37, a Telegraph Instrument Maker, born Hackney Wick, Middlesex. His wife was, Emma, 39, born Bethnal Green. They had been married for 12 years and had two children: Henry John DREWITT, 11, born Coventry, Warwickshire and Lily Violet, 6, born in West Ham. Their address was: 20 Harvist (sic) Road, Holloway, Islington, London. I don't know where the link to Bagpuize comes in. Let me know if you would like me to send you the image of his medal card. Have you looked for him in the 1901 Census? 1. [BRK] Oxfordshire FHS meeting - Monday 24 January 2011
    2. All The next meeting of the Oxfordshire Family History Society will take place on Monday 24 January 2011 at the usual venue at Exeter Hall, Oxford Road, Kidlington, Oxford OX5 1AB. Doors open at 7.15pm for coffee, help with both genealogy and computers, and the bookstall, exchange journals and the library. The subject of the talk is "Death and taxes: an introduction to the Death Duty records", which will be presented by Dave Annal. For over a hundred years, from 1796 to 1903, the Inland Revenue maintained a series of registers recording the payments of death duties. These registers are now held by The National Archives and represent one of family history ’s best kept secrets. During this talk, Dave will look at the surviving records in detail and will explain how they can be used to uncover some fascinating facts about the lives and times of our nineteenth century ancestors. Our speaker Dave Annal has been involved in family history research for over thirty years. For much of this time he has worked as a professional researcher but he also spent ten years working for The National Archives at the Family Records Centre and at Kew as a family history specialist. He has written a number of books including the best-selling "Easy Family History" and contributes regular articles to "Your Family History" magazine. He now runs his own family history research business named "Lifelines Research" - _http://www.lifelinesresearch.co.uk/_ (http://www.lifelinesresearch.co.uk/) . All members, potential members and their guests are welcome. William & Lucy COOK of Shaw - Labourer - had the following children baptised in Shaw-cum-Donnington Church 1841 Jul 11 GEORGE 1847 Mar 7 JESSE 1850 Mar 3 LEVI Levi appeared to be the youngest of William & Lucy's family baptised in Shaw-cum-Donnington Church. 3. North Heath is/was in Chieveley parish, I think within the chapelry of Winterbourne ( according to http://www.berksfhs.org.uk/cms/Berkshire-Places/winterbourne.html ) This is a few miles north of Donnington and Shaw. See also http://www.berksfhs.org.uk/cms/Berkshire-Places/chieveley.html There are at least two COOK families in North Heath in 1841 census with children: Henry and Lucy with children Thomas, Mary, Elizabeth and William and Joseph and Mary with children Emily, Frederick, and John In nearby Shaw in 1841 were William (44) and Lucy (27) Cook with children Ellen 12, Caleb 9 Harriott 8 Caroline 6 Mary Ann 4 and Elizabeth 2 I suspect that Lucy may have been William's second wife, given the age of the eldest child.
